In Germany, the HJ movement served two main purposes: educating and training young Germans to become future members of the Storm Regiment, and instilling physical and mental strength without weakness. As Hitler famously proclaimed, "The weak must be chiselled led away. I want young men and women who can suffer pain."
The requirements for a young German were to be fast as a greyhound, tough as leather, and hard as Krupp's steel. The aim of the Hitler Youth was to make people feel important and contribute to the nation. However, it also fueled anti-Semitism and focused primarily on the Aryan race. Despite teaching similar concepts as schools, pupils of the Hitler Youth became frustrated with school and concentrated solely on the Youth. Its militaristic approach indoctrinated members to aspire for a career in the army, which was evident in their motto, 'blood and honour' engra
...ved on their dagger. Furthermore, the Hitler Youth emphasized the state's importance over one's parents, perpetuating nationalism.
The practice of constantly reminding children to report anti-Nazi beliefs or ideas expressed by their parents was commonplace within the Hitler Youth, which served as a crucial stepping stone to future membership in the elite SS. The organization's impact on German society led to increased discipline and obedience to Hitler's will, while also providing members with more extracurricular activities compared to other European countries. However, participation in the youth group often resulted in young Germans developing strong anti-Semitic beliefs due to its teachings. Despite initially positive effects, effectively running the organization became increasingly challenging as war broke out, resulting in greater resentment towards military drills and discipline
