Gender behavior is considerably influenced through the development of socialization and community forces as compared to natural or inborn differences.
Throughout the development of the narrative, characters talk about gender roles and the consequences of the roles that have been set up in Afghanistan. Hosseini seems to closely pay attention to the relationships of the story’s making apparent to the readers how gender issues are noticeable and of great significance. Hosseini makes the responsibility of women in the Kite Runner apparent to clearly demonstrate the real life Afghanistan. Hosseini creates his attitude implying that women have the most important role of being a companion and mother. As Amir affirm about himself regarding his marriage with fresh bride Soraya: “I had relieved her of the greatest fear of every Afghan mother…that her daughter would age alone, husbandl
...ess, childless. Every woman needed a husband” (Hosseini, 178).
The reader is at this juncture able to perceive the significance of women maintaining a good reputation in the novel. For example, Amir’s mother had a high-quality reputation that Afghans are revealed to talk about for a number of years but Hassan’s mother had an equally pitiable reputation. Hosseini makes clear other roles of women other than being simply a housewife. For example, Amir’s mother Sofia was a university lecturer.
Men on the other hand have roles in the narrative that are practical to that man’s responsibility in Afghanistan. Hosseini makes it clear to readers that Amir’s father is well-liked for his ability in business and for his substantial strength. It becomes apparent in the development of his narrative that similar to the past as well as present within Afghanistan, the man is expected
to be the giver and guardian. Baba is even surprised and shocked by his son Amir’s essential lack of attention in games and his revulsion at watching the damages that would take place when attending a sporting incident of Baba’s. All these distinctive roles seem to pursue the characters out of Afghanistan as well as in California.
