When experiencing eye problems such as astigmatism, an individual will have a distorted vision which requires aids such as glasses or contact lenses. Both eyeglasses and Contact lens have advantages and disadvantages, however, choosing between the eyeglasses and contact lenses mostly depends on an individual’s preferences. Some of the factors that an individual ought to consider while choosing in between the vision aids include; lifestyle, convenience, comfort and most importantly, the budget.
Contact lenses offer benefits such as providing a wide field of view to the user as it is worn directly on the eye. With this, they can reduce the vision distortion significantly. Besides, while wearing the contact lenses, one can conveniently perform activities such as exercising or even playing sports without removing them. Unlike glasses, contact lenses will not
... be affected by the weather. For instance, during the cold weather, there will not fog up. Apart from that, contact lenses are more fashionable than the glasses, as one does not need to match up with the clothes. Also, it becomes easy to test different contact lenses color which brings up a different look.
While using eyeglasses, there is reduced need to touch the eye hence preventing the likelihood of contacting eye infections.
Financially, most people prefer the glasses as they are cheaper compared to the contact lenses in the long term. One does not need to change them often unless they are broken and if the prescription changes, one is able to retain the frame and change the lenses alone making it financially affordable. It is also worth noting that wearing eyeglasses speaks a lot of the individual’s personality and even the style. An appearance wit
eyeglasses can bring up a bold statement. Besides, eye glasses protects the eyes from environmental obstructions such as the dust and air particles.
In terms of comfort, most people refer contact lenses to eyeglasses. Wearing eyeglasses means that one has to always bear with the uncomfortable weight exerted by the glasses on the face and ear. Besides, there will be need for periodic requirement for tightening the frames. On the contrary, contact lenses do not result to discomfort as there will be no unnecessary weight. Modern technology has enabled them to be very light one cannot even notice. When putting on the contact lenses there will be no cases of frames sliding down the face constantly or dropping when bending.
With the modern advancement in contact lenses, its usage and convenience have been enhanced making them comfortable to wear regardless of age. If I am in need to vision aids and I have to choose between eyeglasses and contact lenses, with the above discussion I would go for contact lenses. Between the two, contact lenses provide more benefits compared to eyeglasses making them a better option for correcting obstructed vision. Even though they might be expensive but the benefits are worth the value.
