With Module 1, I now have a grasp of the legal bases of education, educational laws, and the programs and projects of the Department of Education. I was able to know more about the school culture and reality check of teaching as I gain experience from the Deped system.
The Philippine constitution mandates that the state shall establish a complete, adequate and integrated system of education. Complete system means education from preschool to tertiary. Every child is entitled to quality education from preschool, elementary, secondary, college, etc. Adequate system of education means that all available resources are enough, and hopefully in a sense more than enough, to be used in school. Integrated system of education means there is an articulation from Grade 1 up to the 4th Year, where in there is coordination among basic education.
The roles of
...the different private and public institutions are very significant since they provide various support for Philippine educational system. These organizations help develop, promote, provide and ensure basic education to the internal, external, and emerging learning needs. Also the implemented projects on regional, divisional and school levels were designed to empower public schools to strive for excellence through recognition and enlightened self-evaluation based on agreed standards of excellence and incentives.
The school serves as the heart of the formal education system. This statement deeply implies that the school serves as the second home of the child, where in he/she develops his/her moral, intellectual, spiritual and social skills as a person.
Teaching is a profession. Not just any profession but a very noble one. The qualities that make us professional teachers are:
he/she shows expertise in the content; manifest multi technical skills; up in accordance with the ethical standard of the teaching profession; desire continuing professional education and possess special skills in conducting co-curricular activities.
The roles of the school and the home in a child friendly school are the following: respect diversity, let the learners participate in decisions, let them be aware of their rights, protect themselves and give healthy and well nourished, free from violence and exploitation.
