In this study, the researcher discusses how the literature has influenced the design of the study by providing an overview. The reviews have provided valuable insights into the current state of the Custodian's Inventory and identified areas for improvement. Based on this information, a Computerized Inventory System was developed to enhance inventory management.
Businesses are relying more and more on computerized systems to manage their daily operations. As stated by R. M. Stair (2001), a database is a structured compilation of facts and information that an organization possesses, such as customer data, employee details, inventory records, competitor information, sales data, and other relevant information.
Most Managers and executive believe that a database is essential for a computer-based Information System. However, companies are now utilizing Inventory Systems more frequently. A comp
...uter begins with an inventory count in memory. The computer records withdrawals as they occur and continuously adjusts the inventory balance. When the recorded point is reached, the computer automatically initiates an order. Upon receipt of the new order, the recorded balance is updated.
Retail stores have introduced a magnetic code system for items. When an item is checked out and passes over an electronic reader, the computer's inventory balance is updated and the price is recorded on the cash register tape (Brigman, 2000). Taylor (2000) states that database processing is a frequent task performed on computers. In fact, database management systems are only less popular than word processing and spreadsheet packages among the most widely used business tools.
Databases have a crucial role in efficiently managing and monitoring important data like customer information, product inventory, employee records, and capital
assets for companies, governments, and organizations. The primary focus when designing a database is to meet the user's requirements and ensure their accessibility to the developed database.
The Catinding's Hat Merchandise Inventory System was created to replace the previous manual system. Its main objective was to efficiently manage and monitor stock requisitions, reduce discrepancies, and prevent overstocking. It also provided a more efficient method of accessing data and generating reports. Visual fox pro was used as the database management system for this specific system (Catinding's Hat Merchandise Inventory System, Lazaro and Diomedes, 2002).
The "Regalo atbp. Sales and Inventory System" is designed to monitor and document all purchases and sales made. Its main objective is to provide an efficient and convenient platform for managing the records in the database. This includes functions like adding, viewing, and updating data. As stated by Esguerra et. Al (2006).
Review of related Research and Studies
The thesis titled A Proposed Inventory System (LAN Based) of Design Ligna INC. by Cobrado, Deade and Ortega (March 2002) emphasizes the importance of an inventory system in a growing business. This system helps in organizing, planning, and recording equipment and supplies. It provides a means to track the company's assets, liabilities, and profits, as well as identifying production errors, analyzing sales trends, and maintaining a list of supplies needed for production. The software utilized for this system includes Visual Basic 6.0 and Microsoft Access 2000.
The thesis titled Computerized Inventory System for ARB Commercial by Alcano and Dumalaya (March 2001) aimed to monitor the stocks of home appliances and furniture. It could process inventory, generate reports, and
provide helpful functions and printed copies of reports to primary users. The software used was Visual Foxpro version 6.0.
The thesis titled "A Proposed Computerized Inventory System for San Pedro Mini-mart" by Vergara and Vega (March 2002) asserted that the system aided the company in promptly meeting customer demands, which was crucial for maintaining a competitive edge. The efficacy of a company's inventory management plays a significant role in effectively managing resources and ensuring competitiveness. This system encompassed individuals, equipment, and procedures that were responsible for tracking the quantity of each item and determining the optimal purchase quantities or production volumes. The software employed was Visual Basic 6.0, known for its user-friendly interface and extensive range of tools to develop efficient applications while delivering exceptional performance.
