However, the most significant addition to warfare in the 20th century was the use of radio waves and associated electronics. Initially used for communication, these technologies later found application in radar systems. Technological advancements during times of war resulted in improved systems with greater range, accuracy, and capacity. Surprisingly, designers discovered that their electronic devices were rendered ineffective by capable adversaries.
The importance of electronic devices in battle sparked an ongoing competition in this field. This brings us to today's presentation on "Electronic Warfare." In the next 20 minutes or so, I will discuss the latest developments in this area.Following the presentation sequence, I will begin by providing a definition of Electronic Warfare, which includes both the Electromagnetic Environment (ME) and Operation

Now let me present you with the textbook definition of Electronic Warfare. It involves military actions that utilize electromagnetic energy to determine, exploit, mitigate or prevent enemy use of the electromagnetic spectrum while ensuring friendly utilization.The fast-growing trend of Electronic Warfare (NEW) is surpassing all other military systems and plays a vital role in modern battle scenarios.
The purpose of electronic warfare (EW) is to safeguard one's own forces, disrupt enemy communication and data links, and prevent unauthorized access to information. This ongoing conflict between offensive and defensive systems involves exploiting the enemy's electromagnetic emissions across a spectrum of electromagnetic waves. Military operations take place within the electromagnetic environment (MME), a complex information environment. It is crucial for military forces to have unrestricted access to and utilize this environment, but it also comes with risks
and opportunities for EW support. The concept of information operations, which falls under information warfare, further emphasizes the importance of ensuring access to the MME.
An operational environment consists of physical elements such as air, land, maritime, space domains along with influencing information and relevant enemy and friendly systems. Military planners analyze operational environments by considering six interconnected operational variables. Additionally, military doctrine includes two more variables: physical environment and time. These operational variables are used by the military to gain a comprehensive understanding and analysis of the broader context in which operations are conducted.
Tactical leaders focus on six mission variables: enemy, terrain, weather, troops/support available, time available, and civil considerations. These variables provide an overview of the current situation in order to make informed decisions during missions.Commanders utilize their capabilities and actions within the operational environment to achieve desired outcomes in military operations. Information is transmitted through electronic systems and devices that serve various functions such as communication, navigation, sensing, storing, and processing information.
