My experience at Kalkanl? Ya?am Evi has been incredible. I have had the opportunity to meet and bond with several charming elderly individuals, gaining valuable insights into their lives. Prior to meeting them, I held the belief that their lives were monotonous and uninteresting. However, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that many of them are genuinely content with their lifestyles, for the most part at least. Despite having limited options for activities such as eating or relaxing in the lobby or smoking in a designated room, they still manage to find happiness.

Although some elderly people seemed satisfied with their lives, a few of them felt homesick and yearned for their families. This made me incredibly sad, causing tears to form in my eyes. It was clear that certain individuals felt neglected and abandoned. As a result,

I personally took it upon myself to maintain contact with them, with the goal of reducing their loneliness.

Up until now, I have completed a variety of tasks. To illustrate, I supported elderly individuals who use wheelchairs by assisting them in traveling to and from the cafeteria. Furthermore, I interacted with them through card games and conversations. Recently, our team organized a garden barbecue event. not present. The Staff informed me that she had gone somewhere and would return in the evening.

Despite feeling sorry, I left the photo in her room as I desired to witness her reaction. This may have been because she somewhat resembled my late grandmother. Regardless, it is pleasing to know that she received the picture. Even though it wasn't my primary responsibility at Kalkanl? Ya?am Evi, it held significant value to me. Overall, participating in community service has been enjoyable and gratifying to know that I am making a useful contribution.

The visits to Kalkanl? Ya?am Evi have brought great joy to its residents, who often feel deeply lonely and depend on our presence. Both the facility and its inhabitants value the importance of our young volunteers. However, there are issues that require attention. Firstly, many residents experience intense feelings of solitude and need companionship for conversation. Regrettably, the facility staff's unfriendliness and lack of warmth only worsen their isolation. Therefore, it is crucial for us to spend time with them and help alleviate their loneliness.

Despite outward appearances of happiness and contentment, some individuals may conceal their true emotions by adopting a stoic demeanor. Consequently, it is crucial for us to establish connections with as many people as possible and extend our support. Furthermore, those affected by Alzheimer's disease frequently wander without purpose and engage in nonsensical discussions. In such cases, maintaining a calm attitude proves to be the most effective strategy.

In a prior paper, I stressed the significance of being patient when interacting with them. It is essential to avoid arguing or trying to reason with them. Instead, we should just listen without interruption. For

example, even if they share something that may not be funny, we should still find it amusing. Furthermore, incorporating humor into our conversations with them is advantageous. In short, our main aim should be to comprehend their emotions and sentiments rather than their exact words.

It is crucial that we refrain from showing our frustration or anger as it will only make the situation worse. Moreover, we should actively encourage elderly individuals to participate in different activities, even if they are initially hesitant. For instance, suggesting activities such as going for a walk or playing card games can have positive results. In summary, the elderly residents at Kalkanl? Ya?am Evi face significant challenges due to their age and the unfriendly behavior of staff members burdens us with many responsibilities. I strongly believe that engaging in conversations and socializing with them to alleviate their loneliness is our most important duty; otherwise, they may feel abandoned and confused.
