Read the author’s biographical notes and the notes on writing that follow the essay. Look at your own process of writing. How do you plan your essays? Do you start writing the draft, or do you jot down notes on what you want to say? Be specific on the steps you use, and those you may try after reading The Bedford Reader. How do the author’s notes support or develop your process?
Before beginning my essay, I did careful analysis on the type of essay whether it is story, influential, fictional, expository, quarrelsome, or relative. This would give an idea of the essay am going to handle. After identifying the type of essay, I have to get a good plan of writing the paper. My writing process consists of five steps namely prewriting the ideas, stating the structure of the ideas, w
...riting a rough draft on the ideas, revising my ideas and editing the draft copy to get the final copy. My prewriting stage involved transforming my thoughts into concrete ideas on a paper. At this stage, I developed my topic and the supporting ideas. The second step involved outlining the ideas that support the topic at the same time eliminating those that did not make sense on the topic. This step was important because it made me sieve my ideas to facts. In addition, it was important in developing good sentence structures.
My third step was writing a rough draft on my topic. Drafting involved developing a complete version of the writing. The draft is roughly written but follows the outline. The draft is passed to the last stage of editing and proofreading. Editing involves makin
changes to the paper to ensure there are no grammar and sentence errors. It also helps in developing and arranging the paragraphs of the paper to follow a logic manner inform of introduction, body, and conclusion. After editing the paper, there is need to proof read to ensure all the points are covered. In addition, proof reading enables the writer to know whether the paper is fluent. The last step involves writing the final copy of the paper. The author of The Bedford Reader clearly supports my writing steps. He engages and inspires students in writing concrete papers using specific steps like prewriting, outlining, highlighting ideas, drafting, and editing. The author clearly explains these steps meaning my steps are also in line with the ones of the author.
