The ability to turn back time is a wonderful blessing that has the potential to impact our emotions and thoughts. In the area where I grew up, there exists a piece of land where diligent farmers can be observed plowing, tilling soil, sowing seeds, and reaping harvests. This field holds numerous nostalgic recollections from my childhood that frequently occupy my mind. It has been ten years since I last enjoyed moments with my cousins and neighbors in this place.
I have nostalgic recollections of crafting and launching kites in the open field. Our repertoire included a variety of kite designs such as kabab, bubuntutin, laundering, bulldog, and others. Upon witnessing our kites soaring high up in the sky, we would partake in an exhilarating contest called "Sabitan at Dagitan." The aim was to dismantle rivals' kites
...by cutting their thread or "nakaligaW." Another pastime that brought us joy was playing baseball and "paling-bola."
At 4 pm, we gather in the freshly plowed field. We come prepared with our homemade baseball gloves made from an empty rice sack and our ball crafted from old socks, carefully filled and sewn into a round shape. And of course, a bat is essential for the game.
We obtained a coffee wood that measures around 36 inches in length and approximately 3 inches in diameter. Currently, we are commencing the game called "Malbay alls" to determine our teammates. The conclusion of the game will solely occur when we hear our parents summoning us by uttering our names, specifically saying "Dayo! UWI nal Timo! May latog ka pagballk sa atln!" As soon as that takes place, all of us will commence shouting loudly. Withi
the duration of school vacation, you can locate me once again in the grassy area of the field. My cousins, friends, and I explore the grasses resembling mountains and neighboring forest in order to discover bird's nests like tlbsok, Berdugo or pakiskls, Palanga, Ibong puslt, etc.
When I was young, I would eagerly anticipate the hatching of eggs and observe as the mother bird taught her chicks to fly, a process known as "lnaakaY". Back then, we used to catch the birds. However, I eventually ceased this practice due to my empathy for the birds, knowing that their life spans were limited.
During the rainy seasons, I took pleasure in playing in a grassy area of the field where rainwater accumulated and became stagnant. We would construct paper boats and hold races. When heavy rainfall commenced, we engaged in a game called "Ayaan" until the rain subsided.
These memories from my childhood are among the delightful experiences I have encountered in life.
The memories of a significant and unique place hold a special place in my heart, providing tranquility and joy whenever I think of them. These childhood experiences have increased my resilience, reminding me that the past is irreversible but will always be with me.
Reflecting on the previous year, we are unable to physically relive any of the moments that have passed. Personally, I will never be capable of repeating the activities I once engaged in within a field located in my hometown. This particular field holds some of my most treasured possessions, which I will cherish forever. Entitled "Memories in the Field" by Reader Master, this text depicts a scene where kites are soaring towards the sky
and a competitive battle is on the verge of commencing with tractors. In order to play baseball, we utilized makeshift gloves crafted from materials readily available since we lacked a bat. Our solution consisted of cutting a coffee wood piece measuring 36 inches long and nearly 3 inches in diameter. Consequently, the game was ready to commence.
During the "mainly alis" game, we will find out who our teammates will be. The game will only end when we hear our parents calling our names, saying "Dayo! UW na! Timo! May latog ka pagbalik sa atin!" We will all start screaming when that happens. During school vacation, you will find me on the grassy part of the field once again. There, my cousins and friends and I would explore the mountain-like grasses and nearby forest in search of bird's nests like book, Berdugo or pakiskis, Palanga, ibong pusit, and more. When we spot one or two nests, we patiently wait for the eggs to hatch. Once the baby birds are taught by their mother to fly, which we call "izakaya," that's when we would try to catch them. We usually find these birds in the grassy part of the field where rainwater becomes stagnant.
We will play "Ayaan" until the rain stops. My childhood is a cherished time that occupies a unique spot in my heart, bringing me tranquility and joy when I reminisce about those memories. It instilled resilience within me as I navigated through various experiences as a child.
Although we can reflect and remember, it is true that the past cannot be undone or revisited. We are unable to relive any moment from the previous year.
