I've just consumed two pages of exceptional and impressive literature from Rubinstein and Larson's book, "Worlds of Fiction" (Pages 790-792). The blue eyes are symbolic of love, though this love is strange. A man's mission to harm another for his own self-promotion! His goal to gain his love by crippling the vision of the other, despite the man having committed no wrong towards him. This is an unusual behavior that is hard to excuse. His grim form of love does not warrant support. However, this seemingly devilish personality, with seemingly diabolical tendencies, also has a positive aspect.
He isn't a man who acts recklessly. He specifically desires blue eyes, not just any eyes. The story appears to exhibit an 'eye-phobia', eliciting various responses concerning the eyes. Firstly, the Hotel Op
...erator who had only one eye was present, he naturally arouses sympathy. Followed by the narrator's remark, "The night was a garden of eyes!"; a poetic way of saying. Then comes the stranger in search of blue eyes! When confronted with a perilous situation, the narrator indeed attempted to flee but couldn't do so. He reacted in a way that any scared person would in similar situations.
The author utilizes certain 'tools' to enhance the narrative, lead it towards the soaring climax, and maintain the suspense for the readers. The sentences that had a powerful impact on me were: "I perceived the entire cosmos as an intricate network of messages, an interchange among colossal entities. My deeds, the faint sound of a cricket, the flicker of a star — all were nothing more than momentary pauses and fragments of that eternal dialogue
I represented only a single utterance, within a solitary word. Yet, which word was it? Who was the one articulating it?
"To whom?" It all transpires according to His plan and decree in this world. Such profound notions conveyed in these two brief phrases illustrate a high level of spiritual evolution. These initiate a journey of self-examination, eventually culminating in self-discovery. However, the spiritual journey is fraught with challenges, such as unexpected trials thrown your way by evil forces. Yet, the genuine energy emitted by the seeker will effectively repel these negative energies, making them retreat without having achieved their goal. This is always the outcome!
