Performance on achievement tests can determine students' level of understanding. Evaluating the performance of public high school students can provide valuable insight for this field of analysis. Additionally, the number of students passing the examinations at the fourth year of public high school who are entering higher learning institutions provides significant justification for supporting English language instruction in teaching.

Sufficient basis can be obtained from the passing percentage of students from public schools. In the Philippines, major university entrance exams are primarily in English, with the exception

of UPCAT. The accumulation of data solidifies the factual evidence regarding the number of students passing such exams. Publishing books is the ultimate way to substantiate these findings. The swift expansion of English-based concepts used in science and math education necessitates the revision of textbooks and workbooks.

English is the standard language for publishing science and mathematics textbooks and workbooks, according to Otanes (1988, pp. 84-85), which suggests that it is the language of education. Therefore, when publishing books, English proficiency is emphasized, as it is a strong stance.

The Philippine educational system is bilingual, but enhancing students' English proficiency can lead to a more effective and enriched education. This also enables effective communication with other countries. To explore the impact of English on academic subjects, this study aims to assess the performance level of fourth-year public high school students in Physics.

The paper titled "Level of Performance of Fourth Year Public High School Students towards English Vocabulary Proficiency in Physics" addresses the issue of whether fourth year public high school students have sufficient English vocabulary proficiency to learn Physics effectively. The study has two research questions: 1. Do fourth year public high school students possess adequate English vocabulary proficiency for effective learning of Physics? 2. Is there a difference in the level of performance on English vocabulary proficiency between fourth year public high school students and their counterparts in private schools? The research hypotheses do not include null hypotheses and state that the necessary standards for learning Physics effectively are met by the English vocabulary proficiency of fourth year public high school students.

compared to their private school counterparts. This study carries significance for language learners aspiring to expand their vocabulary for various purposes such as writing compositions or reports, as well as effectively and appropriately using it in daily conversations.

The outcomes of this research will support language educators in identifying the suitable method for teaching their subject matter, ensuring that their students comprehend it more easily. Additionally, the discoveries of this investigation will aid in improving the efficacy of lesson plans, course outlines, syllabi, and other evaluation tools utilized by language curriculum planners.

The study's findings will be useful for language instructional material creators when developing textbooks, workbooks, and other teaching materials. The results of this study will also benefit future researchers looking into related studies. The study focuses on assessing the English vocabulary proficiency of fourth-year public high school students, specifically those attending Rizal High School, in the context of physics. Scope and Limitation of the Study:

The focus of the study is on the performance of fourth year public high school students, with emphasis on both written and oral aspects. Investigatory reports, laboratory activity results, and written examinations are used to assess written performance, while oral reports, recitations, class discussions, and oral participation are used to evaluate oral performance. The study is limited to three groups - excellent students, average students, and poor or almost failing students. Honors students belong to the excellent group, those with passing grades are considered as average, and those with poor or nearly failing academic performance are in the last group. The English vocabulary proficiency in Physics is restricted to physics topics such as physics laws and principles, as well

as subdivisions of physics.

Physics subdivisions encompass mechanics, heat, light, sound, electromagnetism, and atomic and nuclear concepts. Laws such as the law of acceleration and law of inertia constitute physics laws. Additionally, physics principles consist of Pascal’s principle, Archimedes’ principle, and Bernoulli’s principle. In this study, operational definitions are crucial. The level of performance is demonstrated through a series of rating scale and survey form sheet results. English vocabulary proficiency is assessed by the number of correct answers in a given English vocabulary test questionnaire.
