SWOT Analysis of the Vegas Tourism Industry and Marketing – College Essay Example
Las Vegas, a well-known tourist destination expanding its presence in the global tourism industry, aims to attract more international tourists. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) plans to increase marketing efforts by participating in the World Travel Market trade show in London from November 12-15, 2007. With around 50,000 travel professionals attending this event, it provides an excellent opportunity for Las Vegas to reach its top overseas market - the United Kingdom.
Although gambling and prostitution are legal activities that attract visitors and generate jobs and new residents, Las Vegas has failed to appeal to other demographics such as family or environmentally conscious tourists. Despite being a unique location with no nearby attractions that lure visitors to stay longer, Las Vegas faces challenges due to high demand for water which exceeds supply. With an average consumption of
...300 gallons per person per day sustaining even some part of population or tourists wouldn't be possible without water from Colorado River.
Despite most transient occupancy taxes going towards Clark County rather than LVCVA, Las Vegas continues growing in popularity with an increase in tourists. The growth of Las Vegas results in traffic congestion, but also presents opportunities for expansion due to warm weather in the surrounding Mojave Desert drawing visitors from colder regions. The city attracts new residents and boosts the local economy. Natural attractions like Red Rock Canyon remain underdeveloped and could appeal to a nature-oriented demographic interested in hiking and wildlife. To increase profits for LVCVA, broadening marketing efforts towards foreign consumers, ethnic minorities, and gay and lesbian markets is necessary. Although there may be potential for a second strip on either side of Las Vega
Boulevard if the city continues to grow, hot summer weather may discourage some travelers from visiting. The impact of global warming has been brought into focus as July temperatures could rise to 105 degrees causing unpleasant conditions like sandstorms. Eco-friendly tourism is increasingly important to the public. As vacations are getting shorter and electricity prices continue to soar, running businesses in Vegas may become less profitable. Dubai's emergence as a strong contender in the global tourism industry diverts attention away from Vegas while Indian reservation gambling gains popularity among guests who just want to gamble posing threats to Vegas' market share; however, hundreds of thousands of employees work diligently behind the scenes despite these challenges keeping things running smoothly in Vegas.
