Introduction

Deviance is any form of conduct that is renowned as violating anticipated norms and rules in the society (Andersen, Margaret, and Howard, 2008). It any behavior that significantly diverts from social expectations of the society; It is more than nonconformity. It defers from one culture to another. Deviance activities are divided into two; first is formal deviance which are activities that violated formally enacted laws for example rape and robbery. Secondly, is informal deviance which are those activities that have not been enacted into law though it is seen as unacceptable by the society; examples are, standing too close to another unnecessarily, belching loudly, picking one’s nose in public, Watching a pornographic movie, Dyeing your hair purple and wearing a spike cut, Medical experimentation on animals, Polygamy and tattooing the body

. All these differ from one society to another.

Picking one’s nose in public, although, deemed to be socially offensive behavior it is not a crime doing it. The whole act of nose picking is unpleasant and horrible and goes against many people that are why many societies found it insupportable. Secondly, tattooing and body piercing is seen to be the creation of a stigma that is based on history; it is stereotypical where motorcycle-riding outcasts wore it. Some cultures tend to prejudge people with tattoos; even it is against Christians to tattoo themselves. Although it is considered as going against the society norms it is not a crime doing it. Furthermore, watching a pornographic movie is considered to be unacceptable behavior by many cultures. If someone is found watching any pornographic film, society can even punish the person, but in a real sense, it is

Conclusion

In conclusion, what is considered being deviance but not a crime will change as time goes over. For example, many people are expressing themselves using tattoos including prominent people. In the workplace, it seen as unethical but nowadays many people are changing those perspectives day by day. Some cultures consider picking nose in the public to be acceptable like China. What we believe to be deviant will evolve over time mainly because of advancement in technology and also interactions between people of different cultures.
