Historiography and retelling also reflect who Yahweh is and how He works with His people. In particular, Moses was used by God to move the Israelites from Egypt to Canaan. God spoke to Moses as they were travelling, and they were given the Ten Commandments to guide them (Krause, 2016). Thus, Israelites were required to obey the law of Yahweh while on the way to Canaan. Deuteronomy retells the book of the covenant in the Exodus such as the status of the women in the 10th Commandment. A person should not covet the neighbor’s property or desire the house of his neighbor or his wife or any other property. The law was meant to maintain order to the Israelites as they moved from Egypt to Canaan. The law further stated that the daughters ought to be taken for the sons and not vice versa. The Hebrews Slave Laws also needed to be obeyed. It stated that if one bought a Hebrew slave, he would work for six years and the seventh year he was to go as a free man with no payment. The same thing ought to be done to the maidservant, and the Lord said that he would bless those who will obey this law (Gunn, 2016).

Prophecy, covenant, and the scripture reveal who Yahweh is and how he works with his people. Moses entered into a

covenant with God through sacrifice (Krause, 2016). At one instant, Abraham took sheep and oxen that sealed a covenant. Yahweh promised to provide protection to Abraham through a vision that said Abraham should not fear because the Lord was his shield and his reward shall be great. Abraham was promised that even though he did not have an heir, he will be blessed such that his descendants will be like the stars in the sky. The scriptures say that, since Abraham believed God righteousness was credited to him. Yahweh commanded Abraham to make a ritual sacrifice, and Abraham obeyed as he brought all the animals and birds as God commanded him. When the darkness fell, Abraham fell asleep, and a flaming fire burnt the pieces of the sacrifice. The covenant was made between Yahweh and Abraham that the descendants of the latter would be blessed with the land.

The three forms of communication complement each other. All the three forms outline the law that guided people in their daily lives. Yahweh required people to obey his law and in return bless them. For instance, Adam and Eve, Israelites and Moses were commanded by God to obey his commandments. Those who failed to abide by the law; their relationship with Yahweh was terminated. Moses who was the father of faith obeyed God’s command through sacrifice and later on he was blessed.

It is evident that Yahweh employs different forms to communicate who he and to work with his people. For instance, He commands the people to obey his laws to have blessings. When Moses was told to make a sacrifice for him, a covenant was sealed when he

obeyed and was promised to be blessed with many descendants.
