In the modern society that we live in, we have learned to appreciate and acknowledge the value of human life. It is indeed true that, every effort done by mankind all over the world aims at preserving and nurturing life. The most sensitive and vital category of human life protection, conservation and nurturing is undeniably the health sector. The health system in every nation around the world is beyond doubt the greatest lifesaving sector. Health organizations lead by the World Health Organization, hospitals and the health staff in such institutions have selflessly dedicated themselves in safeguarding every individuals life in the world.
Being part of such a committed group has been my childhood dream. I have always dedicated my efforts and hard work towards being part of the lifes
...aving health sector. It had been my ambition and lessons from my parents that only education could make the world a better place, and so to me. That was the driving force, the desire to add into the world a difference of value not only to my life but also, all those people in pain and suffering. That is why I decided to work and focus on becoming a nurse specializing on anesthetics.
Being a nurse is all I ever wanted since nursing evokes painful memories of mistakes that could have cost me a lot. My passion in nursing and to always be attending to those in pain comes from a personal case. I had once a great friend of mine who survived a tragic accident which had deprived her, her whole family. She recovered after being well attended to a young nurse but before full recovery she had
lost her ability to communicate. She used to write in order to communicate with everyone. The most inspiring part is when a group of people from the local church decided to pay my friend a visit and pray for her. I couldn’t afford to miss such an event due to the sympathy I felt for her.
However, to our surprise, the young nurse was not aware of the occasion and therefore chased everyone. She never gave us time to even start the prayers and we were annoyed. After everyone left, I went back since the nurse always allowed me. The nurse believed that I was a reason for my friend’s recovery. Upon arrival, I was shocked when the nurse handed me the last paper on the notebook which my friend had written. The note read “Claire, you are sitting on my breathing tubes!!!” Due to lack of enough oxygen, my friend was unconscious but the doctor and nurse had attended to her. The thought crossed my mind that if we had prayed, Jane would have perished as well. The nurse therefore saved my friend. Presently, my friend Jane is about to graduate with a nursing degree. That event changed both of us and we decided to be nurses.
Far from that, the empathy I have for the sick, injured and those in pain makes me to specifically prefer being an anesthetist nurse. The feeling of relieving one from intense pain and suffering gives me unfathomable satisfaction. I have also attended seminars and classes on guidance and counselling and believe that, I would prove to be a complete nurse who would supplement her duties with giving advice and
emotional support to patients and their families.
According to the article The U.S. is running out of nurses by Rebecca Grant, nurses are very important in saving many lives but we are faced with nursing manpower. This indicates that, in the near future where about 80% of the population will be having at least one chronic health condition. People with chronic diseases need more healthcare services and hence, in future this will definitely create high demand for nurses. If there is shortage of nurses then it is absolutely true that many lives will be lost.
Just to conclude, nursing care is a complex profession. I have respect and admiration for nursing because without them, every hospital would cease to function. I am aware of how difficult and demanding nursing requires. However, I am convinced that nursing is my career and I am willing to commit myself to becoming a competitive anesthetic nurse. Saving a single life the same way my friend was saved means a lot to me.
