Code of ethics is the set principles governing the character and behavior of various individuals in a given institution. American Nurses Association is a code of ethics that provides guidelines enabling nurses to handle patient with care. ANA works under nine distinct guidelines referred to as provision. The discussion analysis a certain case elaborating the occasions when the nursing department had followed and to some point violated the ANA code of ethics giving the reasons.

Basing on the case, most provisions as per the ANA were applicable. Example grounding on the incidences, the nurse could have created a favorable condition by engaging the patient in a manner that it could encourage collective action. Basing on the case, as the nurse was trying to gather relevant information from the patient; the mother interacted leading to giving false information. Example the mother assured the physician that her daughter was a virgin and there was no need for the pregnancy test. Since the nurse had the doubts following the symptoms of the patient and she had to act as per the rule of providing maximum care to the patient (American Nurses' Association, 1985). She carries out some confidential test without the concept of the patient. It showed even though the mother insisted that her daughter was a virgin she was found pregnant. of the patient it was right as he was in the line of duty. She was trying to find out the sickness of the patient although against the provision everything should be as per the concept of the patient.

Moreover, the right of the patient was violated because she was not given freedom of expression. Being accompanied by her mother, up to the nurse’s room was not fair because patient’s right was not considered. Besides, the conducive environment was not created for the patient. Concluding that it might be the cause of tension, which in one way led to the failure of some medical test carried. Moreover, the information and condition of the patient should be enclosed. Although in the case, the patient was being interviewed in presence of her mother who in many incidences interrupted and talked on her behalf (Fowler, 2008).

In the case, the nurses and the physicians also failed to adhere to some ANA provision such as to giving of medical care to the patient irrespective of the condition. The patient walks out of the room with pain. Since there was, no treatment administered to her. Moreover as a nurse, apart from working on the health matter of the patient, one should strive in influencing general ethical practices such as the virtue of honesty. The nurses and the physician regardless of realizing that the patient and the mother were not honest in the information gathered. They did not bother to give some advice to them that in future they must stand with honesty. They only gave out the result and the instruction without raising the issue of dishonesty. It illustrates that as a

professional she did not embrace the simple concept that aims at creating a wonderful society. In conclusion, it can be depicted that regardless of the set ANA ethics in some situation they might not be applicable and a slight violation may occur in the process of dealing with various cases.
