Therefore, we must ask ourselves if our school and nation truly value integrity. Far Eastern University's website states that the university is committed to developing graduates who uphold the highest intellectual, moral, and cultural standards.

The university aims to foster a community that values service and environmental responsibility for a positive impact on the world. Unfortunately, there are cases where students disregard these principles. Some students choose to litter on campus even though trash cans are readily available. Additionally, certain students frequently skip classes while some professors irregularly attend their lectures, causing concern among students. Furthermore, the university's services occasionally fail to meet expectations by taking too long to address student needs.

There are individuals who consistently display a negative attitude and refuse to engage in conversation. Some of them do not even bother responding. It is disheartening to witness people outside the university who cannot comprehend FEU's genuine commitment to the highest intellectual, moral, and cultural values; they believe it is not truly apparent. However, integrity is not widely practiced in our nation as a whole. In fact, over 60% of people in

the Philippines are not advancing alongside the country.

The rise in corruption, terrorism, and unethical politics is a consequence of widespread unemployment, poverty, and hunger. It is crucial to alter our viewpoint regarding this matter. Unemployment contributes to terrorism as it originates from illiteracy. Similarly, numerous individuals engaged in corrupt political activities are illiterate and lack moral discernment. By attaining universal literacy, we can effectively tackle problems like corruption, societal issues, and even overpopulation.

To promote integrity in our school and nation currently, it is crucial for us to organize awareness seminars within our educational institution. The concept of "Each one, teach one" must be deeply ingrained in the hearts of each individual. It is essential to educate college students about the proper ethical principles from their initial year at university. Emphasize the significance of acquiring knowledge right from the start and instill in them the values of diligence and admiration for hard work. Teach them that failing with integrity is much more praiseworthy than resorting to dishonesty.

Furthermore, individuals should be educated to embrace their uniqueness and stand out, even if it means deviating from societal norms. A crucial aspect of this education involves teaching logical problem-solving approaches that foster clear thinking skills and the ability to evaluate and revise arguments using sound reasoning principles. Developing logical thinking abilities also nurtures integrity. Moreover, each person must serve as a role model for others by embodying uprightness. Additionally, a thorough reevaluation of the promotion system within the ranks is important.

The current system, referred to as the "Palakasan System, Utang na Loob and Pakikisama System," relies heavily on favoritism. It prioritizes individuals who are well-connected,

have power or owed favors, and belong to a certain group. Meeting any of these requirements almost guarantees a promotion, regardless of qualifications. In my opinion, it is crucial for the teaching profession to undergo professionalization like what is observed in the corporate world. Promotions should be solely based on merit.

The current system allows many individuals to advance in ranks without possessing the necessary qualities to become educational leaders. Instead, these individuals are primarily motivated by salary increases and the prestige associated with being a school manager. Regrettably, these mentors lack genuine concern and dedication to implement reforms that can enhance the education system. Although it is acknowledged that teachers are not fairly compensated for their workload, a true educator will lead by setting an example and putting maximum effort into everything they do.

The mentioned aspects apply equally to government officials and employees. Currently, we are facing a significant political crisis that has divided our population and drawn them towards extreme ideologies. In this serious scenario, different groups exploit each other, manipulate situations for their own benefit, and intentionally confuse the public by presenting speculation or suspicion as unquestionable truth, all with the intention of gaining power. Furthermore, these individuals even engage in corrupt activities.

Corruption is viewed as a departure from the anticipated ethical and responsible use of authority by those in power. Although it usually involves illegal actions by public officials, corruption is not solely the state's responsibility. It also encompasses the duty of both public officials and the government as a whole to be answerable to the public. Hence, addressing and combating corruption effectively requires considering more than just the

state's actions. Corruption reflects society's understanding of what constitutes responsible exercise of power and thus garners acceptance and support.

In light of the country's extensive history of corruption, addressing this issue should not solely revolve around legislation but also consider past events. Instances of government officials being held accountable for graft and corruption have been rare, with many evading legal examination despite clear evidence against them. This underscores the urgency to enforce anti-corruption laws more strictly and conduct regular lifestyle checks on public servants. It is crucial that we now promote good governance as it necessitates a collaborative endeavor.

Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo emphasized three crucial factors for achieving public welfare. Firstly, full commitment to serving the public's interests is essential. Secondly, reforms are necessary at all levels and sectors, which can be achieved by promoting good governance among personnel and ensuring efficient operations in all units. Lastly, integrity plays a critical role in governance as the absence of moral values often leads to unethical practices. However, in today's society, moral values are frequently disregarded as outdated.

Moral values may not be a priority for ordinary individuals due to their perceived lack of direct connection to current success. However, the intertwining of logic, philosophy, and moral values actively shape our lives. Understanding their presence and impact can facilitate comprehension and alleviate the mental entanglement we find ourselves in. Neglecting or being unaware of their existence can lead to inadvertent mishaps. Morals and moral values serve as fundamental pillars for all life forms on Earth.
