The southern region of Wales is experiencing a chilly and dismal day in the midst of winter.

Katie Brown was awoken by her mother telling her it was time for school. Despite being a beautiful and intelligent student, Katie was modest and serene in demeanor. Her mother admired her success in academia, considering her to be the "golden child." In contrast to many of her female peers, Katie aspired to make a meaningful societal contribution beyond traditional gender roles. She found inspiration in her father's profession as a doctor and his significant impact on society. Like him, she wanted to break the barriers of the male-dominated world and become one of the first women to do so.

Despite the challenges of living with her divorced mother, two younger twin brothers, and an older rebellious sister who wa

s often scolded, Katie had a deep affection for her bothersome siblings. Balancing household duties and school studies was a constant struggle for her. Nevertheless, she persevered and one day found herself on her way to school.

Katie, a year 11 student, was feeling the pressure to pass her exams. Rushing out of the house one day, she arrived late and in a bad mood at school. When Mr. Syed, her math teacher, demanded her homework angrily, Katie explained that she had forgotten to do it because she had been helping her mother and didn't have time.

After hearing Katie's excuses, the math teacher got angry and refused to accept them. Despite not realizing that Mr. Syed cared solely about her passing the exam, Katie responded by stating that she couldn't do it any longer, hated her life, and demanded to be left

alone. This behavior was unlike the well-mannered girl Mr. Syed knew and he suspected that something may have been wrong with her family. In shock, he instructed her to go to the head teacher's office. As she headed there, Katie's heart raced as she worried about her perfect record since year 7.

As Katie reached for the door handle of the head teacher's office, she was consumed with fear. Memories of her mother's warning flooded her mind, "Your sister has hurt me and this family, do not become like her for you are the one who keeps this family together." Trembling with uncertainly, she worried about disappointing her mother and the repercussions that would follow. Katie was young and naive and didn't know what to do. Should she face the punishment or run away?

Katie made the decision to flee from facing both the head teacher and her mother, not realizing how this choice would alter her destiny. Rushing towards the exit, Katie encountered Mr. Warnock, her history teacher who inquired, "Where are you headed, Katie? Don't you have a class?" Katie concocted a falsity and responded quickly, "Yes, sir. I do have a class, but I need to go home to retrieve a forgotten book." Mr. Warnock scrutinized Katie strangely, but knowing her as an honest student, he allowed her to leave with the stipulation that she return in time for history at day's end. Katie made her exit from the school grounds.

After venturing outside, she became bewildered and unsure of her actions. Strolling aimlessly, she inadvertently passed through a foreboding and dim alley. However, her attention was elsewhere as she was

lost in contemplation of her existence. Suddenly...

Upon completion, everything occurred.

Two men with covered faces grabbed Katie at the end of an alleyway and threw her into a black van. Despite struggling, they covered her mouth and she passed out from lack of air. As she woke up in the back of the van with other confused girls, she heard one man say "she's a good catch." It was clear to Katie that this was not just a dream as she looked around and saw that she was still in the van.

Upon hearing someone call the new recruit to their attention, Katie burst into tears and exclaimed, "if only, if only..."

Katie regrets not going to the head teacher and taking her punishment, as she believes it could have prevented her current situation. She is being held captive by the heartless boss kidnapper, Johnny Divine, who instructs her to remain silent and make money for him and his associates. Katie realizes that she is not alone in this experience when she looks across the van.

Observing the despondent and lethargic state of her fellow girls, she approached one and inquired about their situation: "Where are we, and what brought us here?" A bleak response was given: "We are all victims and have been trapped here for a month. These men have abducted us to do their nefarious bidding. Some of us are coerced into peddling drugs, while others are in slavery."

Katie expressed surprise and inquired whether the mysterious girl would also undergo the same suffering as they did. The mysterious girl confirmed that she is no exception and will have to bear it. During their journey, the van

abruptly stopped, and Johnny, the kidnapper, ordered his accomplices to open the door and prevent any attempt at escape. He cautioned them of dire repercussions if they failed to comply.

While a worker opened the back door of the van after a period in darkness, Katie was momentarily blinded by the sudden influx of light from street lamps. At that moment, her mother was anticipating the end of Katie's school day and watching the time. However, when she received an unexpected phone call, it felt different. The head teacher delivered shocking news- Katie had failed to complete her homework and attend the office.

We regret to inform you that your daughter Katie has absconded from school and her whereabouts are presently unknown. Upon receiving this news from the head teacher, Katie's mother was overwhelmed with emotion. Meanwhile, a group of heavily guarded and masked individuals transported Katie by force to an abandoned warehouse where she was surprised to find a lively casino instead of the expected silence. Ultimately, she was escorted to the rear of the casino where several men were hosting a private event.

Informed by Johnny Divine, the leader of the kidnappers, that he had found a new girl as requested, he appealed to his bosses for mercy towards his family. The gang leader, currently attired in a lengthy black jacket and smoking a cigar, coolly responded, "Certainly...”.

The gang leader made it clear that he didn't care about Johnny Divine's family and warned against messing with him. He snapped his fingers and Johnny was shot in the head, causing Katie to scream in horror as blood spilled on the ground. The gang leader then ordered someone

to silence her.

Forced into a chair, Katie's mouth was swiftly sealed shut by a worker. The gang leader spoke with a menacing tone, warning of dire consequences should she disobey. "I have a unique task for you," he said, "but first, you must listen and obey." The atmosphere was one of malice and retribution.

After the servant removes the tape from Katie's mouth, she inhales deeply and wonders why she is being treated this way and what may have sparked it. The gang leader chuckles in response, saying that if he cared about her, he wouldn't be subjecting her to this ordeal. He then assigns her the task of delivering drugs to a certain location, warning that failing to complete it will lead to harm for her family - information he has already acquired.

The gang leader threatened Katie, insisting that she perform a task in order to keep her family safe. Katie responded with fear, agreeing to do it. The gang leader expressed contentment and reminded her that not only was her safety at risk, but also the well-being of her family. The gang leader warned against attempting to escape.

Katie was released and permitted to go, but she felt bewildered and anxious about what to do next. Although she considered standing up against the bullies, she was hesitant because her family was too important to put at risk.

Setting off to undertake her task, she arrived at an address where she laid eyes on a revolting, deserted, and intimidating old house. The door appeared to creak open on its own accord, and upon entering, she was greeted by a rush of toxic air tainted with

fumes from drugs.

Upon hearing a voice, she followed it to a living room where a man was watching TV alone. He gave her the money and instructed her to leave the "stash" on the table. She hastily left the house and returned to the drug-selling casino.

Katie, feeling deeply saddened and wanting no further involvement, was brought before the gang leader who inquired if she had completed the task. Succumbing to pressure, she replied affirmatively. The leader sarcastically praised her while his workers laughed, causing her frustration to boil over with newfound moral courage. Katie boldly declared she would no longer participate in any further tasks, inspired by a grand plan she had concocted during the leader's speech.

Observing the ironing in front of her, Katie uttered to herself that it was the right time to act. As the iron was piping hot, connected to an electrical outlet, she had a surge of bravery and defied the men to halt her. Her pulse raced rapidly. Ultimately, she hurled the iron at them and fled, putting as much distance as possible between herself and them.

Feeling an adrenaline rush, Katie successfully executed a bold and daring plan to escape the gang. She navigated her way back to her area and realized she had a second chance. Walking in the rain and reflecting on her life, Katie reached Ladbroke Grove road, feeling hopeful for the future.

Upon approaching her house, Katie observes multiple police cars stationed outside. At first, she remains relatively unperturbed and concludes that her mother must have contacted the authorities for assistance. But as she moves closer, she also spots an ambulance and begins to feel

fearful. Overwhelmed with emotion, she sprints towards her residence while loudly shouting "MUUUUUUUUUUUM." Despite a police officer's attempt to pacify her and request that she remain at a distance, he is ignorant of the fact that Katie is actually the missing daughter. Once Katie discloses her true identity, the officer grants her permission to proceed.

She experienced distress upon discovering her deceased mother, twin brothers, and older sister on the ground. Despite being in a stunned state, she noticed a message on the wall that warned, "If you attempt to flee, there will be consequences."
