"To His Coy Mistress" is about a man who is trying to persuade woman to have sex with him, but she doesn't want to. "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? " is about a man who talks about the beauty of his woman using nature to describe her beauty. The theme of love will be explored in this essay. in "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day". It is showing how much the speaker loves the women. ' Shall I compare thee to a summer's day ' This quote emphasises that a summer's day is bright and beautiful, just like you are perfect. It proves that she is beautiful because the speaker is comparing her to a summer's day.

Similarly in "The Rendezvous" also shows beauty. It is similar to the first piece of text because it shows how much he loves her. 'All night, blank as a tailor's dummy, he has waited for This girl who has chosen not to come ' This quote is a simile and it evokes that the man is standing there like a dummy even though he knows she is not coming, it also shows he has no personality. proves she must be beautiful because the man is waiting for her even though he knows she is not coming.

However a significant difference between the two pieces of texts is they have different view of women. This is displayed in "The Rendezvous" because in rendezvous Stanley J. Thomas has a cynical view of women. ' Like a once bitten apple rots its promise in the bin 'This quote illustrates at the beginning it was positive because it was nice and juicy, but the promise she made is rotting like a bitten apple like the Adam and Eve story, which gives a negative view to love. This proves Stanley has a synical view of women. It shows biblical imagery, the fall of man, this shows the woman is responsible for how this man feels.

It is her fault she is upset, the view of love is negative it realtes to the fact that women have more power over men. Conversly in "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" is different because it has a positive view of women.Thou art more lovely and more temperate ' This quote depicts that the patron is better than a summer's you are perfect, this proves William Shakespeare has a good view of women because no one is perfect. Another main similarity between the two texts is lust.

This is displayed in "To Hs Coy Mistress" because he is showing how much he loves the woman. ' A hundred years should go to praise Thine eyes, And on thy forehead ' In this quote Andrew Marvell uses hyperbole and flattery to persuade her. This quote portrays that if I

had the time I would praise your eyes but I don't so lets not waste time. This shows it is a metaphysical poet. Similarly in "Shall I compare thee to a summers day" also shows lust because he saying our love will never finish. This is shown by ' And summer's lease hath all too short a date' This quote expresses that summer is not going to last it will end one day but my love for you will never end.

This proves the point I am making because he is saying he will love her forever. However another significant difference between the two pieces of text is in "To His Coy Mistress" he wants to break the woman's virginity but in "Shall I compare thee to summer's day" he is showing how much he loves her. This is displayed in "To His Coy Mistress" because the speaker is persuading her by saying you will die a virgin. ' Time's winged chariot hurrying near And yonder all before us lie ' This quote is a personification it informs that our time is nearly up, and you will die a virgin. This quote proves he wants to sleep with her.

Conversely in "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" is different because he is showing her how much he loves her. This is shown by, ' Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines ' This quote is a personification it informs that summer is too hot and the sun fades. This proves the speaker is saying how much he loves her. Another main similarity between the texts is nature. This is displayed in "Shall I compare thee

to summer's day" because William Shakespeare is comparing their love to a summer's day? ' By chance or nature's changing course untrimmed ' This quote exhibits that everything will be stripped of its beauty but your beauty will never finish. This proves that Shakespeare is comparing love to a summer's day.

Similarly in "The Rendezvous" also shows nature because he believes she is still going to come and meet him. This is shown by, Hanging on to the raft of a promise' This quote is a metaphor it displays that the image is like a sea all alone his promise is his raft because if he lets go, the view of romance will go. This proves the point because he still thinks she is coming. However a significant difference between the two pieces of text is in "The Rendezvous" he knows she is not coming whereas in "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" William Shakespeare is saying how beautiful she is. This is displayed the in rendezvous because everything around him is saying she is not coming.

' The clocks argue the hours 'This quote is a personification it indicates that the clocks are arguing she is not going to come no more but he still believes she is going to come. This point proves that she is not coming but he still believes she is coming. Conversely "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" is different because he is saying how beautiful she is. This is shown by, ' So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see, So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

' This quote

presents that as long as people still read this poem, your beauty will live forever they are also rhyming couplets. This point proves that she is beautiful and will always stay beautiful. Another similarity between the two poems is that they are written in a certain rhyme scheme. In "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" is written in a quatrain, it has 3 quatrains and a rhyming couplet after the quatrain.

It is written in a definite rhyme scheme to highlight his love for his Patron. In "To His Coy Mistress it is written in a series of rhyming couplets it also has a definite rhyme scheme this shows it is a metaphysical poem. The difference is that "To His Coy Mistress" and "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" both have a definite rhyme scheme. However "The Rendezvous" is written in free verse, it is written in free verse to reflect the certainty of the persona, it reflects uncertainty in his mind weather the persona is going to care or not, it also reflects the personas irregular feelings.

"The Rendezvous" has quick and snappy verses to give the feeling of time passing, therefore it links to time. "To His Coy Mistress" is a logical argument how it changes from I to we this shows that they are together. In conclusion the theme of love is displayed in The Rendezvous, Shall I compare thee to a summer's day and to his coy mistress because they are showing how much they care for their women. They are all similar because they all use nature; they all have lust and beauty. They are different because in Rendezvous

it is about romantic love, to his coy mistress is about lust and shall I compare thee to a summer's day is about beauty and romance.

In my opinion shall I compare thee to a summer's day has the most realistic view of love because William Shakespeare uses nature which is romantic; he also has a good view of women.
