I am Dr. Mariflor Delgado a cardiologist and a nutritionist. I work with patients who have cardiovascular diseases or are at risk of contracting cardiovascular diseases. I own a hospital called "The future of medicine". The hospital is one of the most advanced hospitals in the USA as far as research and patient care are concerned. Currently, together with my colleagues at the hospital, we are majoring on research. We have majored the research on emerging diseases and lifestyle disorders such as cancer, obese and diabetes. We are seeking to discover the cure of most chronic diseases. Since we started, we have made major strides. We have been able to determine that most chronic diseases are lifestyle related in that they are caused by factors such as one’s diet, failure to exercise and failure to control stress. Moreover, we

have determined that the root of most chronic disease is the fact that patients are opting for inflammatory diets, this diets basically consist of excess carbohydrates, processed foods and excess proteins. This discovery has enabled us to save lives as we have consequently been able to know the solution to the chronic diseases. We have recommended that people should go for inflammatory diets such as a diet rich in salmon, sardines, olive oils, and fruit and vegetables. Such diets will help reduce the amount of harmful omega-6 in the body and increase the amount of omega-3 which is helpful.

We have found that most cancers are preventable by about 80% and all that is required following a diet full of polyphenolics, flavonoids, stools and sterol, glucosinolates, carotenoids and anthycianidins. On Obese, we have also made a bi

impact. Based on our findings, we have recommended that people living with obesity should change their lifestyle and focus much on proper diet and exercise, this has had a positive impact as the obese population in the country has reduced by 20%. In addition, together with my colleagues, we are doing research on skeletal diseases, including osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, DDD, muscular dystrophy. We have discovered that as one is aging, his or her bones get more fragile due to the fact that the phase of bone breaking is more than that of bone building. Therefore, especially past the age of 40, is a crucial age for patients to follow a healthy lifestyle so as to sustain their bones healthy. It is patent that the research has had a positive impact on patients as some revealed that they never imagined that a change in a diet could have such great impact in their life, giving them motivation, happiness, and a positive change of attitude toward success.

In my hospital, I also treat diabetic patients I treat them whilst educating them on their condition to enable them manage their condition well. I explained to them that their pancreas is unable to synthesize enough insulin and therefore glucose levels in the blood increase dramatically. It is therefore crucial for them to take a diet containing very little or no processed food. I also focus on helping kids as I have noted that that kids, especially those at school are unable to maintain a healthy diet. I am working on opening cafeteria’s and small hotels near schools, in the hotels and cafeteria’s I am planning to introduce, healthy non processed and

cheap foods and beverages.

Since the US population is growing day by day, it is consequent that even the patient population in the country will rise. Based on this, in addition to expanding the hospital research base I will expand the hospital inpatient and outpatient section. Most importantly of all I will embrace technology in the hospital. I will introduce electronic technology such as electronic medical records in the hospital. I will incorporate in the electronic media records a software that will enable a physician to see and directly analyze a patient’s visit procedure, medical history and based on this create a CPT code directly. This will have an overall effect of enabling my hospital to treat patient quickly and more efficiently based on their past medical history. In addition to this speed will be enhanced by directly tying the electronic media records to the billing depart. This will enable everything, including treatment, billing and drug administration to be done at a single desk.

On the research segment of the technology, the hospital will be embraced so as to enhance, accurate research especially on the emerging and chronic diseases. The hospital will utilize techniques that will have very minimal chances of contracting illness. It will most importantly apply less invasive imaging technology such as using of computer aided identification of different type of cancers, using positron emission’s tomography and techniques such as magnetic resonance. All this will aid in more accurate and up-to-date detecting and curbing illnesses.

One of the major problems in the USA, currently is shortage of physicians. My hospital will be geared towards curbing this. I will setup a private university that will concentrate only

on educating doctors. Bearing in mind that a high capital cost may be required. I will use the revenue generated from my hospital, in addition to asking funding from both the government and NGO’s. The university will be equipped with state of the art labs and classrooms that will major on emerging and chronic diseases, ensuring that doctors who come out from them are fully trained. The university and hospital will work hand in hand, ensuring are practically trained in the hospital. By opening the university, physician shortage both in my hospital and in the US at large will have been reduced and consequently good medical care will have been adhered to. Lastly by having a hospital, a doctors training university and by doing research, 15 years from now I will have made major strides and positively contributed towards better medical care in the country.
