What is Valium And Xanax?
Valium and Xanax are two of the most commonly prescribed medications for anxiety and panic disorders. Both Valium (diazepam) and Xanax (alprazolam) are benzodiazepines, drugs that work by increasing the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a chemical in the brain that helps reduce anxiety. While both Valium and Xanax have similar effects on anxiety, they differ in their onset time, duration of action, dosage form, side effects, and abuse potential.Valium is a longer-acting benzodiazepine with an onset time of up to 30 minutes after ingestion. Its effect on anxiety can last up to 8 hours. Unlike Xanax which is available as a tablet or capsule form, Valium is only available as an injectable solution or an oral solution. Side effects include drowsiness, confusion, nausea/vomiting, dizziness/lightheadedness, muscle weakness/coordination problems and blurred vision. Long-term use can lead to physical dependence resulting in withdrawal symptoms when stopped abruptly. Xanax has a faster onset time than Valium it takes about 10 minutes for its effects to take hold – but its duration of action is shorter too usually 4-6 hours at most. It comes in both tablet and capsule forms making it easier for people to take it on the go when needed during stressful situations like job interviews or public speaking events. Common side effects include drowsiness, headache/confusion/memory problems and coordination difficulties; more serious side effects such as suicidal thoughts may occur with long-term use so caution should be used if prescribing this medication over long periods of time or at higher doses than recommended by your doctor. Both Valium and Xanax are highly addictive substances meaning they induce physical dependence which leads to tolerance over time requiring increasingly higher doses for the same effect so great care must be taken when using them even if prescribed by your doctor.
