Ten years ago, the world was a much different place. In 2010, the population of the United States was just over 310 million, the iPhone 4 had just been released, and the top movie in theaters was Avatar. Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter were still in their early stages of development and not yet mainstream. At that time, many people were still using computers with Windows XP or Mac OS X Leopard as their operating systems. Google Maps was only a few years old, and Apple had just released its first iPad tablet device. Smartphones weren’t nearly as common as they are todayin fact, most people were still using regular flip phones. The economy wasn’t doing so great either; unemployment rates in the United States were at 9%, compared to 6% today. The housing market had crashed two years prior and hadn’t fully recovered yet. Gas prices throughout the country averaged around $2.76 per gallonnowadays it’s closer to $2.60 per gallon on average across all states. In terms of technology advancements since then, there have been incredible leaps forward over the past decade: artificial intelligence is becoming more popular than ever before thanks to machine learning algorithms being developed; virtual reality has become an increasingly accessible form of entertainment; drone technology has enabled us to explore places we never could before; self-driving cars are now taking their first steps onto city streets; 5G networks are slowly rolling out worldwide for faster internet speeds; 3D printing is revolutionizing manufacturing processes..the list goes on.
