What is Five Years Ago?

Five years ago seems like a distant memory now, but it was actually not that long ago. In 2015 the world was very different from what it is today. The United States had only recently elected President Barack Obama to serve his second term in office, and he seemed to have many ambitious plans for the future of the country. Social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram were starting to become popular, yet Snapchat wasn’t even around at this time. Technology advanced rapidly with companies releasing new innovations on what felt like a weekly basis. It was also an interesting year in terms of entertainment; Star Wars: The Force Awakens hit cinemas, Adele released her third album 25 and Netflix’s Stranger Things made its debut into our lives all within the same year.At this point five years ago I was finishing my final year at high school; I had no idea what my post-school life would look like or where I wanted to go after graduating. Little did I know that by 2020 I would be studying psychology at university, living independently away from home (and loving every minute of it.). My family were also doing well back then; we were all healthy and happy – something that is often taken for granted until you experience times when those things are not so certain anymore. We hadn’t gone through any major changes or upheavals during this period either which meant there wasn’t much stress in our lives. Even though five years can feel like quite a short amount of time looking back on it now especially since so much has changed since then it feels like an eternity because of how quickly life moves forward now days.
