What is Inflammation Of The Liver?
Inflammation of the liver, otherwise known as hepatitis, is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition. It can be caused by a variety of things, including viruses, toxins, medications and alcohol. It can also be hereditary. The condition causes inflammation in the liver cells and can affect their ability to perform normal functions. In some cases, it may even lead to scarring or cirrhosis of the liver.Symptoms associated with hepatitis include: jaundice (yellowing of eyes and skin), fatigue, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or tenderness, dark urine and clay-colored stools. Other symptoms may include fever and joint pain. If left untreated, hepatitis can lead to serious complications such as cirrhosis or even cancer of the liver.Treatment for hepatitis varies depending on its cause but usually involves rest and avoiding any activities that could further strain your liver such as alcohol consumption or taking certain medications like acetaminophen (Tylenol). Your doctor may also prescribe medication to help reduce inflammation in your liver or to fight off any viral infections that might be causing your symptoms. In some cases surgery may be needed if severe scarring has occurred in the liver due to long-term inflammation caused by chronic hepatitis B or C virus infections. In addition to medical treatment for this condition it is important to take steps towards improving your overall health so that you can prevent further damage from occurring in your liver cells. This includes eating a healthy diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as limiting alcohol consumption when possible (or avoiding it altogether). Regular exercise is also important for keeping your body healthy especially if you have been diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B or C virus infection which typically requires lifelong antiviral therapy prescribed by a physician in order to control symptoms and prevent flare ups from occurring over time. Finally getting adequate rest is essential for allowing your body time to heal itself from any damage caused by this condition so make sure you get enough sleep every night.
