What is Consumer Product Safety Commission?

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is a federal agency in the United States that is responsible for protecting the public from risks posed by consumer products. This includes, but is not limited to, toys, appliances, furniture, tools and other items sold in stores or online. The agency also educates consumers about potential hazards through its website as well as pamphlets and other literature distributed at retail locations across the country. Finally, it provides support for recalls of unsafe products when necessary to protect consumers from harm caused by dangerous items still on store shelves or being used in homes nationwide. Overall, the mission of the Consumer Product Safety Commission is to protect people from injuries or death due to defective or dangerous consumer products while at the same time promoting product innovation and economic growth within industry sectors regulated under its purview.
