Carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor (H2O) are two of the most important trace gases in Earth’s atmosphere, playing an essential role in regulating global climate. CO2 is produced by the burning of fossil fuels and other human activities, while water vapor is naturally occurring. Both gases have significant effects on Earth’s climate system, with both playing a part in determining global temperature and atmospheric pressure.CO2 acts as a greenhouse gas in that it traps heat from sunlight within Earth’s atmosphere. This helps to keep the planet warm enough for life to survive. However, too much CO2 can lead to an imbalance in the climate system which can result in higher temperatures, increased extreme weather events and other changes associated with global warming. Water vapor acts as a feedback mechanism for climate change since it increases when temperatures rise due to increased evaporation of water from oceans and land surfaces. The extra water vapor helps absorb more solar radiation and reduce temperatures back down again.Water vapor also plays an important role in forming clouds which reflect sunlight back into space thus cooling the planet further. This process also helps to regulate air humidity levels which affects air temperature directly as well as indirectly through its influence on cloud formation and precipitation patterns.
