What is AP Chemistry?
AP Chemistry is an advanced high school course designed to provide students with a rigorous college-level curriculum. It covers topics such as atomic structure, chemical bonding and interactions, thermochemistry, kinetics and equilibrium, acids and bases, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry and organic chemistry. The course also includes laboratory experiments that demonstrate key concepts in the classroom. The AP Chemistry exam is administered by the College Board each year in May. In order to receive college credit or other advanced placement options at universities, students must score a 3 or higher on the exam. To prepare for the exam students should focus on mastering all of the concepts covered in class before taking practice tests under timed conditions. Additionally utilizing study guides written specifically for the AP Chemistry Exam can be beneficial in helping to understand more difficult topics as well as finding helpful tips on how to approach various types of questions found on the test. By taking AP Chemistry students are able to gain valuable knowledge that will help them succeed once they enter college-level courses. They will have a greater understanding of important chemical principles which can lead to further success when pursuing careers related to science and engineering fields such as medicine or environmental sciences. Furthermore taking this course allows for great flexibility since many colleges accept scores from AP Exams towards their general education requirements meaning less time spent completing basic classes during undergrad studies leading to faster degree completion times along with savings associated with not having take certain classes due credits earned through passing scores achieved on these exams such as AP Chemistry.
