What is Alkaline Earth Metals?
Alkaline Earth Metals (AEMs) are a group of metallic elements located in Group 2 of the periodic table. These elements include beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium and radium. AEMs have a number of specific characteristics that make them unique compared to other metals on the periodic table. One of the most important characteristics is their reactivity with water. When exposed to moisture or water vapour in the atmosphere, AEMs form oxides on their surface that give them a distinctive white colouring. This reaction also helps to make them resistant to corrosion and weathering over time. The second major characteristic of AEMs is their high melting points and boiling points compared to other metals in the same group on the periodic table. This means they are ideal for use in applications where an element needs to be able to withstand extreme temperatures without degrading or changing its properties over time. The third major characteristic of AEMs is their high density and relatively low atomic mass relative to other elements on the periodic table. This makes them suitable for use in alloys since they can add strength without adding too much weight or bulkiness when mixed with other metals. Finally, one of the biggest advantages of Alkaline Earth Metals is that they are among some of the most abundant elements on Earth making them widely available for industrial and commercial use at competitive prices compared with rarer metals like gold or platinum which have far fewer uses due to their scarcity and expense which can limit certain types of applications or uses that require consistency across large areas or scales such as construction materials for buildings etc.
