Key legislation such as the Childcare Act 2006 and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 protect children's personal development, health, and safety. The Childcare Act focuses on improving young children's well-being while the Health and Safety at Work Act protects employees. To create a safe environment for employees and children, we provide staff training, first aid qualifications, safety equipment, and written safety procedures. We conduct risk assessments throughout the nursery to prevent potential hazards. In addition to safety, we also focus on promoting personal development by planning indoor and outdoor activities, observing children's engagement, and involving them in various activities. As part of my role, I introduce topics such as space, under the sea, and the human body to the children. I organize trips related to these topics to enhance their learning experience. For example, I recently taught my preschool class about dinosaurs, volcanoes, and biology before taking them on a visit to The Natural History Museum where they could apply what they learned. Continuously improving my training helps me bring new concepts to the nursery and provide diverse experiences for the children. Childcare practitioners have a primary duty of ensuring children's safety while also considering their environment alongside other responsibilities in a nursery setting.
