Drug and substance abuse is a health issue that has led to death, health issues and violence in Delray Beach. Excessive use of drugs and substance leads people to loss of rational thinking and are unable to be productive in the society. In Florida, there were 29 deaths caused by substance abuse in the year 2015 (America's Health Rankings, 2015). Through social policing, this number should be able to reduce because drug substance is treatable.
The priorities of Healthy People 2020 is to improve the health of people and create awareness among the people on the causes of health problems. Substance abuse leads to poor health and disease and is one of the priorities (Healthy People 2020, 2016). They indicate that it is a priority because it is a leading factor to physical and public health issues such as crime, chil
...d abuse, and teenage pregnancies.
Addressing substance abuse requires creating awareness on the related risks. It would require finances to set up a place where people can get assistance. Working on drug addiction is a challenge because people are usually in denial and may perceive the aid negatively. It is key therefore to work carefully with the people depending on their level of addiction.
As a public health person, there is a need to collaborate with such organizations as nonprofit making to get the financing required. I will work to set up a counseling program to reach out to the people and advice on how they can quit substance abuse. The persons affected will be engaged in productive activities such as art that will draw their minds away from substance abuse. The program will work in collaboration with
the community to identify those affected and will be available for reach for persons from all ages, ethnic groups, and religious affiliation.
