The process of people returning to the city from suburban areas is known as re-urbanisation.
London Docklands, which is a common practice in some parts of the universe, especially in MEDCs, serves as a typical example. The pull factors of London Docklands are evident after the London Docklands Development Corporation's regeneration program in 1981. Formerly a zone of discard, Docklands became the location of over 1120 million lbs of public-sector investment and 8420 million lbs of private-sector investment.
The number of concerns increased from 1100 in 1981 to 2300 in 1990, which resulted in the creation of 17000 new jobs and relocation of 24000 jobs, causing total employment to increase from 27000 in 1981 to 53000 in 1990. In terms of society, this led to the creation of 15200 new job positions.

...le 5,300 places were improved. Additionally, new shopping installations and universities, like the Technology College, were constructed to cater to the growing population. Nevertheless, the most significant investment made by the corporation was in regenerating transportation, which comprised about half of their expenses.
The Dockland Light Railway, comprising of 18 stations and spanning 128 miles, was constructed with an aim to transport over 80,000 commuters daily to Central London within a time-span of 10 minutes. Additionally, the Corporation has effectively implemented an all-encompassing transportation system that has enabled a modal split.
For example, in Britain, various policies have been implemented to encourage people to travel from the suburbs to the city. The Isle of Dogs Central Business District serves as an illustration, with 27% of travel during peak hour being by private conveyance and
73% by public conveyance. The Corporation has achieved success at the terminal, and these pull factors have enticed people to return to the city from the suburbs.
The establishment of a greenbelt area by the authorities prohibits the construction of buildings, thereby putting a stop to urban expansion. However, the cities had become exhausted and the population was dwindling. Hence, the government needed to revitalize the urban areas to attract people back.
London, as an example, has already undergone urbanization and has a decreasing amount of suburbs. This results in individuals having to return to the city that has experienced decline, as there are no options available to expand outward.
