REFLECTION:

  • Although some of his points were spot on, I can't help but feel offended and insulted on how shallow, stereotype and Just plain stupid this pigeonhole of an author must be.

To go deeper with it, I'll do it one by one as well. First point. He stated that, "Filipinos have a remarkable sense of humor" - I strongly agree, however, I believe that it is not a unique "Filipino' trait since almost all countries display it and it is not something that uniquely separates us from others. He also said, "Well, it's only in the Philippines where people do not take serious eaters seriously. I'm not entirely sure he meant what I think he did but this is a very senseless and vague statement considering what the country has been through. And to add insult to i

njury, he stated that "It's only in the Philippines" where people can't be serious. People Power/ADS Revolution, might be a good example perhaps? Second Point. "Filipinos Have Incomparable Sense of Hospitality' - No argument here. Yet again, he had the urge to say something stereotypical, "we regard them so much [Foreigners]" Thinking or stamping that every Filipino look up to foreigners as if they ere gods or something.

Speak for yourself, Mr.. Cared. Third Point. "We Filipinos are very Creative and Inventive" - Definitely. He also stated that, "when there is a big flood, they take it to their advantage to go up on the roofs of their houses to fish tailpipe for their dinner. " Mr.. Cared, Filipinos run up to their roofs in a big flood to save their lives, not catch tailpipe for their

dinner. Fourth Point. "Filipinos are Great Violators" - Again, not going to argue the fact that this is somewhat true. But to say that this insult uniquely separates us from other Mounties is a false claim.

At the end of the paragraph, he mentioned that, "Waling gangway as States. It's only in the Philippines. " Colonial Mentality much? Jaywalking, unsanitary habits and garbage disposal, buying of pirated goods, and eating unhealthy foods are apparently a trait that only Filipinos practice, according to Mr.. Cared. Are you serious? Fifth, "We Filipinos are Professional Crammers" - At these point, it was clear that the author sees only one group of people. The word "stereotype" is becoming a click© for this uninformed author. They [Students] procrastinate.

They do it a day or two before the deadline. Well that's the type of students that we have today, whether we admit it or not. " According to him, ALL students today are procrastinators. Someone needs to teach this guy how to use superlative adjectives. MOST students procrastinate, and I am one of them.(This reflection paper is a good example.) However, it is a crying shame to say that all of them are procrastinators since I have classmates and peers who do things with alacrity. This is now turning out to be an angry reflection. Sixth Point. We Filipinos are so Superficial. - This is the most half-baked, ignorant and futile part of his puerile prejudices. "When we ask: "Who would you choose: a beautiful but dull girl or an intelligent but ugly girl? " We will certainly take the first option because we believe that the intellectual inferiority of a

person can still be improved, isn't it? " He insists that Filipino men, all Filipino men only ("certainly fall in love with dumb, beautiful women over smart, ugly and possibly kind women. And we are the ones who are SO superficial? On behalf of all Filipino men, F@! *You!

Do you honestly want to be with someone who looks like Baking for the rest of your life? Who could endure to be with someone who looks like a living monster? " Mr.. Cared also doesn't know what humility and empathy are. "We really want someone whom we can display in public, someone who exudes an angelic face with a flawless body. " Really? This is an unparalleled and unique Filipino trait, apparently. Seventh Point. "We Filipinos are so Judgmental. " - After that sixth point, nothing could go right anymore. Okay, Mr.. Cared said that we are so Judgmental, him being the cost.

He also added, again, "Well it's only in the Philippines. " It's only in this country where people are Judgmental. Wow. Eight Point. "We Filipinos do not Provide an Exact Answer"- Agreed. Ninth Point. "We Filipinos have a Strong Sense of Volunteerism. " - In a poor attempt to make a Joke, he actually meant "gate-crashing" when he said "Volunteerism". Apparently, gate-crashing is another unique Filipino trait. Tenth Point. "We Filipinos are so Complaining" - Somewhat true, yet another senseless statement to say that the ADS Revolution was mere complaining.

If we do hint and complain enough, then there wouldn't be no Napoleons-sees in our country at Eleventh Point. "We Filipinos are so Pretentious. " - He spat and chat on a

true Filipino trait, which is Banning, and claims that we are Great Pretenders for we use it to take advantage on our brothers. Banning still exists on many Filipinos and it is a true Filipino trait but according to Mr.. Cared, we are Just pretentious and said, "So sad Waling gangway as States. It's only in the Philippines. " Lastly, "We Filipinos are so Resilient. " - I am displaying my resiliency now by enduring our shallow and unintelligent literary work.

Saying that Filipinos are resilient is actually contrary to his earlier observation that Filipinos complain too much. "Only in the Philippines. " as the author is fond of saying throughout. "How do we describe today's Filipino? What are the qualities or physical attributes that make us stand out among all the races in the world? " Safe to say, these traits does not make us stand out among all the races in the world. Don't be fooled by the glamorous title of this literary piece, for this is actually
