Developing quality improvement teams is crucial for achieving ongoing improvement across all aspects of work. These teams serve as the backbone for creating a culture of teamwork that provides a structured framework for employees to collaborate on enhancing product and service quality. Creating these teams can be based on the principles of total quality management, which are becoming increasingly well-defined as more organizations undertake improvement processes. These organizations may go through a phase where the necessary steps towards improvement become much clearer.

The Jaguar turnaround and Rank Xerox's recovery from losing two-thirds of their market to the Japanese serve as prime examples of successfully implementing total quality management. Even JCB, situated between industry giants Case and Caterpillar in the West and Komatsu in the East, utilized total quality management to maintain its market share worldwide.
It is possible to survive and succeed like other organizations committed to total quality management. Many organizations are on the path to becoming 'Total Quality Organizations' which highlight
the importance of quality in today's market. Improved quality is now a requirement for competing, producing, and surviving. Furthermore, this improvement must extend to every level and operation within the organization. Ignoring total quality management could lead to insolvency. (Aguayo, Raphael, 1990)
