Postmodernism refers to the twentieth-century movement in criticism and arts that have divergent views from modernism. It entails critical and skeptical interpretation of literature, culture, art as well as literary criticism.
On the other hand, existentialism refers to the philosophical approach that emphasizes on the existence of a person as a responsible and free agent that decides his or her development through his will or actions (Browning, & Sweeney, 2004).

In the poem, we learn that Porphyria has been living in the cottage for a long time before. He is also quite happy building up the existing fire in the fireplace, “ Blaze up, and all the cottage warm,” the reveals one key feature of postmodernism which emphasizes on traditional way of life rather than modern lifestyle (Browning, & Sweeney, 2004).
Also, Porphyria he takes emotional comfort and pleasure in bending over to sit and rub his cheek on his lover's yellow hair, “And, stopping, made my cheek lie there”, this depicts the feeling of loneliness and that he needs somebody to share his burning desires and a strong feeling of love.
