Page 340: Exercise 2
Freewriting is intended to be a spontaneous process in which you simply write without stopping in order to generate ideas. What you write will vary depending on your own personal experience. With “a job teaching a musical instrument to children”, for example, you could begin by writing about what instrument (or instruments) you play, how you learned to play them, and how many years of experience you have. You could also include the names of teachers you have had to keep in mind for potential references. Since the job involves working with children, you might want to write about your experience with kids; have you worked as a babysitter before? Do you have younger siblings or cousins? Have you had jobs before that involved working with children?
If you get stuck, try not to stop writing; since the process of writing itself can help you generate ideas, it is ok to simply write “I don’t know what to write next” until you think of the next bit of relevant information you can include about your topic.
