Many westerners are intimidated by the idea of visiting Japan as a foreigner because of the country’s cultural differences. With some research, however, one can make their way through a trip to Japan while following local social norms. Remembering to bow when expected and to make the appropriate gestures when given a gift are just a few of the manners one should try to keep in mind. Keeping an open mind to these social expectations will take you far.

If I choose to go to a university, there are a variety of careers for which I could pursue a degree. I could become a doctor or teacher. Alternatively, I could choose to learn a trade and work in a specialized hands-on field. Construction and technical work can be very rewarding.

On Christmas, for example, some families choose to gather their entire extended families together in one place, while others keep the celebration limited to immediate family. Some families open presents on Christmas Eve night and others on Christmas Day; some don’t exchange gifts at all. And don’t forget that many do not celebrate Christmas at all! Those who celebrate Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, among other winter holidays, each have their own ways of holding their respective celebrations.

Even if there is a particular style you like, it may not be suitable for you. Because of variation in hair thickness, texture, and color, it’s hard to tell how the same cut will look from one person to another. In addition, some styles require more daily maintenance than others, so you must decide whether you are ok with setting aside time each morning to style your hair. Talking these factors through with your hairstylist can be helpful in deciding what direction you should take.
