At a young age, I set my heart on living a life dedicated to helping other people. This desire to serve others and see their lives benefit from my help was burning inside of me, yet I never knew how I would do it until my first social psychology class in my undergraduate studies at the University of Mississippi. I was fascinated by the research and findings in studying social behavior patterns of why people do the things they do.
This instantly became something I was passionate about and I knew that it was a phenomenon that I would focus on for the rest of my life. As I wondered about the different career paths I could take after college, I pondered the idea of using social psychology to fulfill my childhood dreams of leaving a positive impact on those around me. From that, I have found a call to action in pursuing a caree
...r in organizational development. It is my dream to utilize the principles of social psychology along with the experiences of individuals by starting my career in organizational development to improve people’s lives within organizations. I believe that the most interesting facet of this career is that there will always be room for continued research and improvement upon strategies for organizational practices. By teaching the best methods and understanding of research, Meredith’s graduate program will be the perfect stepping stone for me. The workplace environment is constantly evolving, such as Millennials entering the workforce and gender and cultural diversity growing within organizations.
I hope to use my future career to empower organizations and their individuals by helping them benefit from these changes. From my
personal experience, I know that recent graduates often struggle to stick with one job for a long period of time and stay engaged. By furthering my education in industrial organizational psychology, I can learn more about the mindsets and values of this specific group and how to motivate these individuals. As a result of the influx of a new generation among our world’s organization, there is a diverse group of individuals, which I would like to help highlight as an asset to the organizations, rather than an obstacle. I have experienced that great creativity and cultivation of new ideas can be formed by the collaboration of people with different backgrounds and beliefs. Furthermore, I would like to succeed in growing the leadership of such organizations to acclimate and thrive during these cultural changes. Not only are there changes as a result of a new generation in the workplace, but also from a standpoint of cross-cultural globalization within organizations.
There is a need for the integration of different cultural components and inclusivity in large and small organizations from the emerging diversity within. I would greatly benefit from Meredith’s program by furthering my knowledge in the differences in the attitudes and motivations of separate cultures. It is important to me that I take into account the different influences each culture has on what makes a good leader and how to effectively solve issues by collaborating with others in order to sustain a healthy functioning work environment. I am passionate about immersing myself in new research on cross-cultural theories within organizational psychology and promoting collective strategies that will empower all groups within organizations. Researching more about what affects individuals’
perspectives and behaviors will help me gain a better understanding of how I can use those influences to benefit the ways in which organizations are run.
The chance to enhance my education in your graduate program will help me succeed in my career by putting my knowledge into practice. I am thrilled to see what opportunities will arise from this program.
