I believe that traits are very essential in healthcare careers. Through these characteristics, I will be able to provide a fair treatment to all my patients, make them feel comfortable and make sure that they are fully recovered once they leave my office. All of this would lead to the best results and good health for all the patients.

In order to become a dentist, you must have a doctoral degree and be licensed in the state which you’re planning to work in. The main responsibility of a dentist is to diagnose and treat issues with the patients teeth, gums, and different parts of their oral cavity. Some of the dentist's everyday responsibilities include: “Remove decay from teeth and fill cavities, Repair or remove damaged teeth, Prescribe antibiotics or other medications” (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics) and etc… Dentists also look at the X-ray images of the patient’s mouth and decide which parts must be treated. Dentists can decide on their job environment. There are a few dentists who have their own business and either work alone or with a small group of staff. Other dentists however, work with their dentists co-workers in an office owned by someone else. According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics website, the median salary of a dentist in 2019 is $159,200 per year and $76.54 per hour with a job outlook of 7% increase from 2018-2028. This increase is much “faster than the average of all other occupations” (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).

The education level required for dentists in the Houston area is the same as the US, with the majority of dentists having either a doctoral or professional

degree in this career. The responsibilities of a dentist are also the same in the Houston area as they are in other areas. Their most essential responsibility is diagnosing and treating diseases or problems with patient’s teeth and gums. The median salary of a dentist in houston is a little less than the average in the United States. In woodlands and Sugar Land areas the salary of a dentist is $149,120 while in the US it's $155,600. The percentage of job outlook for dentists in Houston however, is higher than the US. In Houston areas the job outlook has a 23% increase while in the United States the increase is only 8%.

According to the Texas Reality Check website, the amount of money I need to earn to maintain the lifestyle I aspire to live is $87,330. I’m not planning to live a luxurious life. As long as I’m able to pay for my essential expenses and live a comfortable life, I don’t think I need money for anything else. The occupation that I'm pursuing will pay that salary. I want to become a Dentist and the salary of a Dentist in the Houston area is $149,120, therefore, I'm easily able to cover all of my expenses. After paying for all my essential needs, I will have about $61,790 left every year. With this money, I’m planning to help my parents pay off their house dept and have a better life. My parents have always been supporting me throughout my life, and with this money I want to thank them for providing for me and helping me achieve my goals. I also want to dedicate some

money to charity. I’m planning to adopt a kid in the future in order to help someone else achieve her/his dreams in life.

As someone pursuing a healthcare career, I believe that I should live in areas where people need the most amount of healthcare support. As a result, I believe that bigger cities would be better choices for me. Cities such as Chicago and New York would be perfect since both are large cities and have large populations. According to the CNN Money Calculator website living in Chicago requires more money than living in Houston. In Chicago, groceries are 17% more expensive, housing is 77% more expensive, transportation is 28% more expensive, and health care is 9% more expensive than in Houston. This means that in order to have the same lifestyle in Chicago as the one in Houston, I need to make about $102,176 yearly. According to the Career One Stop website, the average salary of a dentist in Chicago is $167,950. Meaning that I am still easily able to pay for all of my expenses and have some left left as well. I also checked the Cost of living in the New York Manhattan area. According to CNN Money Calculator, In New York (Manhattan), groceries are 59% more expensive, housing is 523% more expensive, transportation is 31% more expensive, and healthcare is 20% more expensive than in Houston. Meaning that in order to have the same lifestyle in New York (Manhattan) as the one in Houston, I would need to make about $552,798 at least. According to Career One Stop website, the average salary of a dentist in New York is $144,120. This

means that unfortunately I will never be able to afford my expenses in this city with this career. Overall, I believe that I would still want to live in the Houston area because expenses are much cheaper than any of the two other cities and I will have more money saved at the end of each year.
