A sanction are rewards or punishment towards an action. It may be divided into two positive sanction which refers to an action that rewards a certain kind of behavior (Groenman, 1992). The other type of sanction is negative sanction which refers to punishment or a threat of punishment to enforce conformity. Example of a negative sanction may be a lecturer enforcing punishment to students who are causing disruptions in an institute. An example of positive sanction which actually changed my behavior is the rewarding of certificates and also sponsorship for those students who performed well in the class. At first, when I joined the high school I used to perform poorly in most of the subjects.

udents in the class would get a reward and in addition to that those students who come from poor families would be given sponsorship for their higher education. I saw this as an opportunity for me to help my family. At that time I used to wake up very early in the morning and sleep very late at night doing my studies and homework. My grades started improving due to the efforts I was putting in my studies and my dream was that I will perform exemplary well and get sponsorship to join the college.

I joined the company of the students who used to perform well in the class and I learned their tricks on how they study and on how they did their work. This encouraged me and I changed my behavior by leaving out some things like laziness which could not lead me to my

success. After emulating them, I managed to become the best student in the class and I was rewarded by being given a sponsorship chance to further my education.
