Women studies are courses that students pursue to investigate and hence learn about women’s perspectives, experiences, contributions and historical development through inquiry. Women studies, through questions, have over the years helped women integrate knowledge about their experiences into different disciplines. Gender studies help learners understand controversial issues that have hindered the development of women over time and helps in finding solutions to such problems over time. Gender studies make use of interdisciplinary courses to enhance collaborative skills and improve critical thinking in the search for solutions to gender-related problems.
Feminism is a concept that advocates for both women’s and men’s equality socially economically and politically. Women studies help learners or individuals understand existing discriminatory practices in gender especially those related to women whereas feminism helps to address existing discriminatory practices that cause gender inequality.

The Combahee River and Sojourner Truth identify the inner strength of women and demand for independence and fair involvement of women in different spheres of development in the society. They both argue against existing misogynistic stereotypes that men and women hold about the female gender acquiring rights similar to those of men. Besides, both consider racial discrimination as contributing further to gender discriminatory practices against women.
The Combahee River Collective explains further of existing political and economic limitations that hinder women from achieving full development. It identifies progressive employment and education practice as important tools that women have gained to
fight existing oppression against women in the society. The Combahee River Collective also identifies the needs of black women as different from those of white women since they (black women) also have to fight class and racial discrimination.
