To enhance literacy rates in India, the government should redirect funding from the IITs and the IIMs to primary education. Educating a larger population is crucial compared to a small group of individuals. Moreover, it is disheartening that students from IIT and IIM leave India for work opportunities abroad. For democracy to thrive, widespread literacy is vital, which can be achieved by focusing on primary education. The substantial amount spent on IITs and IIMs creates a division within the nation; one community lacks basic education while the other has access to higher education. Since most IIT and IIM students can finance themselves, the government should consider making these institutions self-funded and cease their funding. However, it's important to acknowledge that these institutes play a fundamental role in promoting young talent internationally

In conclusion, comparing primary education, a broad field, with the concentrated nature of IITs and IIMs is not appropriate. While funding for these institutions can be self-financed, it is important to establish a proper mechanism and provide scholarships in case of a fee increase.
