To facilitate progress and development in the Philippines, it is crucial to reform certain values, attitudes, and practices. One such aspect is Bahala Na, a belief in destiny and a nonchalant approach towards outcomes. This perspective of leaving things to chance requires a transformation for us to make a more impactful contribution to our society. Another issue that requires attention is Filipino time, which entails a penchant for taking things lightly and neglecting deadlines and appointments. Commonly known as "Filipino time," this tendency to postpone or arrive late for commitments must be addressed.
Bukas Na (Procrastination) is when urgent tasks are replaced with less urgent ones or enjoyable activities, resulting in a delay of important tasks. This behavior can lead to stress, guilt, crisis, decreased productivity, and social disapproval for neglecting responsibilities. Conversely, laziness among Filipinos is charac
...terized by their relaxed and stress-free nature, making them sociable and pleasant. However, this laid-back attitude also contributes to lower productivity.
Filipinos often rely on fate instead of taking initiative. They frequently make excuses for not fulfilling agreements, such as blaming traffic or being preoccupied with something else. If people would just follow agreements, there would be no need for additional behavior policies. Reflecting on your behavior when the community tells you that you are being inconsiderate is important. Persisting in inappropriate or disruptive behavior causes problems for both yourself and society.
In Filipino culture, many people thrive on gossiping, causing broken families, lost trust, and severed friendships. Some individuals prioritize personal gain by accepting small amounts of money in exchange for supporting a corrupt politician, rather than working together for the betterment
of society and governance. Consequently, impoverished tricycle drivers are forced to navigate dangerous streets, endangering both their passengers' lives and their own, all in pursuit of a meager income. It is no surprise that politicians resort to plastering their faces everywhere, regardless of the shallowness of their ideas.
