There were many characteristics of Percy Jackson that were similar to those of Greek Heroes. Like many Greek Heroes, Percy went on a great and dangerous journey and like most Greek Heroes, he had the courage and strength to do this. Because of this, Percy is most like Perseus, Odysseus, and Theseus. Percy is not just like Perseus because their names sound alike. They are alike in other ways as well. Like Perseus, Percy was saved because he had a god watching over him.
In “ The Great Heroes Before the Trojan War” it says, “ But Perseus was saved from his folly. Two great gods were watching over him. ”(Hamilton 145). This same thing happened to Percy when he was battling Anabeth. She had beaten him up pretty badly and Percy had lay t
...here defeated when his father, Poseidon , spoke to him and said, “Go to the water. It will give you strength”(Titles). Just like his father said, Percy had the strength to go on and defeat Anabeth. Percy was also very much like Theseus.
Like Theseus, Percy was the son of great spent his youth living with his mother in a suburban area. Both of their fathers left them at an early age but both of them grew up to become strong and heroic boys. When both boys grew up, they both undertook dangerous journeys. Percy’s was to find his mother and return the lightning bolt to Zeus and Theseus was seeking his father. “The Great Heroes Before the Trojan War” says, “Theseus’ journey was long and very hazardous because of the bandits that beset the road”(Hamilton 150).
The same was for Percy’s journey.
He encountered lotus eaters, medusa, and even Luke who he thought was his friend but was the lightning thief that had framed him. Just like Theseus, he emerged with victory every time. Lastly, Percy was almost just like Odysseus. They both came into contact with lotus eaters and many other dangerous things on their journey. Both men were on journeys in order to find there loved ones. Odysseus was trying to find his wife and child and Percy was trying to find his mother. They both battle great, giant beast and defeated them and were victorious in each of there circumstances.
