Despite the constantly shifting world and current events, a literary masterpiece manages to remain both relevant and captivating throughout time.
The primary objective of the topics and themes in these literary works will forever align with the author's intentions, while still striking a chord with readers as they did initially. In this paper, I will outline my expectations for literary masterpieces and the qualities I anticipate them possessing upon finishing the English 106 course. Additionally, I will recount my personal encounters with literary masterpieces and provide insight into their respective contexts.
The expectation is that literary masterpieces are written in an older style, aligning with the fact that these pieces endure over time. Consequently, they were likely composed during bygone eras, when the manner of speech and writing differed from contemporary practices.

While I anticipate that some literary masterpieces may be lengthy and challenging to connect with, I also expect them to possess a distinct allure and aesthetic appeal. Despite being products of the past, these works continue to provoke contemplation and engage contemporary readers. Therefore, it is plausible to find enjoyment in these literary masterpieces and even regard them as entertaining.
Throughout my high school years and the period after high school but before college, I came across several literary masterpieces like Shakespeare's Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Bram Stoker's Dracula. Out of all these works, Dracula and Romeo and Juliet were particularly significant to me as personal favorites.
I believe that the literature's contents greatly aided in my comprehension and admiration, fostering
personal connection and providing entertainment. It is the exceptional writing, everlasting relevance, relatability, etc., which contribute to the authors' intention of deeply impacting readers.
In my opinion, the mentioned characteristics contribute to what makes a great literary masterpiece and what I anticipate such a masterpiece to emphasize. These mentioned and unmentioned literary masterpieces hold great significance as they influence and shape the minds of readers in various ways. Their impact on modern society is substantial due to their significant influence.
William Shakespeare's literary works remain relevant and captivating through the centuries. They are adapted into films, performed on stage, and studied in schools at various grade levels. Romeo and Juliet, for example, first published in 1597, is now being made into a film in 2013. These timeless pieces continue to captivate audiences with their enduring charm.
Literary masterpieces can vary in quality, whether captivating or dull. However, they consistently stimulate thoughts and captivate interest, regardless of their age. These works remain relevant and relatable, impacting the reader on an individual level. In essence, literary masterpieces possess influence and significance, aligning with my personal beliefs and expectations.
