Global warming is simply the increase of the temperature of the earth (Novi Meadows Elementary, 2002). However, it is not as simple as it may look. Global warming is one of the major problems that the human civilization is facing right now, as it has been associated with various phenomena that are currently occurring on earth, such as the rising of oceans, the lost of habitat of polar bears in the arctic region, and droughts and calamities (Chanton, 2002). One of the leading causes of global warming is the greenhouse effect.

The green house effect is the trapping of the sun’s heat and light inside the atmosphere, making the earth hotter and hotter as time passes by. The heat that is trapped inside the earth’s atmosphere cannot get back to outer space because it is bounced back to the earth by the greenhouse gases. S

ome of the common greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorocarbons. These greenhouse gases are the real culprits of the global warming. The most notable green house gas is carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is the most abundant of all the green house gases.

Although carbon dioxide is essential in the food making process of the plant known as the photosynthesis, too much carbon dioxide is greatly detrimental to the environment. There are some studies about the possible effects of global warming in a certain geographical area—the Wabash River Watershed. The graphs give results that would identify if there is really a global warming in the said area. The graphs include changes in max temperatures, minimum temperatures, average temperatures, precipitation, evapotranspiration, etc.

on the given graphs, the area shows a possible global warming. Such evidences of the area demonstrating global warming are the levels of precipitation, the average minimum temperature, and the evapotranspiration. The increase in the levels of precipitation shows that the area is becoming hotter and hotter. Precipitation is formed when there is evaporation of water. An increase in temperature would mean an increase in evaporation levels, and with that, there will be an increase in precipitation.

The second is the average minimum temperature. Minimum temperatures are achieved during night time. If there is an increase of minimum temperature then there is an increase of temperature during nighttime. If there is an increase of temperature during the night, then that would mean that there is a continuous evaporation process during the night. That would mean higher evaporation and it will then contribute to the precipitation level. Other factors support the idea that the area indicates evidences of global warming.

Even though the data suggests a possible global warming, it does not show that there will be droughts in the area. The precipitation level in the area is increasing as time passes by. Other data such as evapotranspiration, surplus, runoff and deficit supports the two main data which are the temperature and precipitation. In general, the data shows a clear change in the climate over the past few years. From hot climate the data changed to a series of very cold climate then returning again to hot climate.

The data show evidences of climate change that may lead to a possible global warming that can be caused by the green house gases. The

data shows many possibilities regarding the future. One may predict a cycle of high temperature to low temperature, returning again to high temperature. Another future prediction is that the runoffs will be greater and greater as time passes by. Bigger runoffs may result in damages to places near the Wabash Watershed. The watershed is taking away the land as time passes by.
