Thesis Statement To analyze Obama’s cartoon with respect to fiscal responsibility as he holds $3. 4 billion of budget with him, declaring his stance on fiscal responsibility as lip service only (according to the cartoonist Daniel Kurtzman).
Description and subjective analysis of the cartoon
The cartoon shows Obama holding a huge stack or pile with the label of $3. 4 trillion as the new budget plan. The cartoon mocks Obama’s stance on fiscal responsibility basically. It is hence satirical in nature. The cartoon also shows two big lips as ‘taken off from Obama’s face’, elaborating graphically the metaphor lip service. This can be seen o
the left hand side of the carton. President Obama in his budget plan for fiscal year 2009 has proposed a budget of $3. 4 trillion, this being a record on its own in America’s history.
President Obama according to the new budget declared that Congress would borrow money as per need, and no compromise would be made especially for health care budgetary issues. This budget plan has also come to be known as ‘pay-as-you-go’ formula. With the help of this formula, the cartoonist mocks the current fiscal responsibility of Obama by showing this stance as ‘wishful thinking’. This has been done very gracefully in this cartoon as the cartoon explicitly shows how the nation after this plan will surge even greater in debt.
Effectiveness of the cartoon The mocking tone has been very nicely displayed hence with the aid of cartoonist’s visual display.
