The novel and the film aren't much different but there are some changes being made and some scenes added in or aren't shown in the film from the book. What make the film better are the way it has been structured and also the fact that it is a film, so you could watch how the characters express themselves rather than picturing it your head. But the disappointing part of the film is that it is not directly from the book. The missed a few chapters and scenes. Even when the film is partly different from the novel, it still keeps the main story.

The way the film has been structured is probably the best difference the film has from the book. The structure of the film is simpler than the book. The film tells the story of one of the m

other and then her daughter, then once their story are finish the film goes on to the next mother and their daughter. This keeps you from becoming lost because it is easy to know what person they're talking about and what happened to that person just now, which is very unlike the book. The book is not structured like the film.

The story of one mother/daughter doesn't fully unfold non-stop, like the film, but instead it unfolds halfway then it unfolds the rest in later chapters. This makes you more lost because you cant remember what person you're reading about and what happened to the person the in last chapter you read about her. That is why the film has a better structure than the novel. One part of the film that was good and i

related to the way the story has been planned is the part where Suyuan leaves her twin daughters.

That part as told near the beginning of the film, but the film didn't mention why she left her twin daughters until near the end. This makes you have to wait until the end to know the complete story of Suyuan leaving her twin daughters. What makes the film better than the book besides the structure is the fact that it is a film. If it is a film, you can just watch the characters expression and the dramatic scenes rather than getting descriptions from the words by the novel and imagining it in your head. Watching on film is better than imaging on the book.

I couldn't really picture what Waverly was like when reading about her in the book, but when I watched the film, the way she talked like when she suggested that she was sophisticated clearly shows that she was snobbish. I couldn't really imagine what Waverly was like from the book. The fact that you could watch the Joy Luck Club as a film is better when it comes to watching the dramatic scenes. Picturing drama scenes is difficult when reading from text, but watching a drama scene is so much easier and it becomes very emotional to you.

At the end of the film where June finally meet her sisters was, that part was so dramatic and it makes you have tears. However, when you imagine what the ending would be like, you don't burst tears because it is hard to imagine how dramatic it supposed to be. The film did very well on

how bad Ying-ying's first husband was. The film did a better job at that by adding some scenes that was never in the novel. One of the scenes includes the bad husband bringing a prostitute to his house and calling Ying-ying a 'whore'.

This is effective to show that Ying-ying's first husband was a ver bad man. The scripts originated from the novel but many of them were changed or had been added. One of the scripts that was changed but became better than the novel was the chapter called the 'Best Quality'. The film has explained the meaning of what was written in the novel, which was the part where Suyuan says to June "Only you pick that [bad] crab. Nobody else take it. I already know this. Everybody else wants best quality. You thinking different".

The novel never explained what Suyuan meant when sing this, but in the film she did. It meant the June had 'best quality heart'. The part that the film didn't do well but was done well in the book was the part where Suyuan was about to abandon her twin babies. The novel clearly describes the ill and pain state that Suyuan was in which made her abandon her twin babies, but the film really doesn't show how hurt and ill Suyuan was. All the film did was showing her palm bleeding and getting her husband to say that 'she almost died' when he was telling the story of Suyuan to June.

The film is actually good but there are some parts that they could've put in to make the film more understandable, interesting, and complete like the novel. To make

the film more complete can be done by adding more detailed explanations or scenes on the why Suyuan started the Joy Luck Club and what was the first Joy Luck Club was like in China. This was done in the novel. The film should have added scenes or using the narrator to explain why Lindo's family had to move because of the flood damaging their house. The film didn't explain why the Lindo's family had to move.

The film also didn't add the part where June's father meets his auntie in China. This would've given June's father more of a role in the story. The film should've added the chapter, 'Voice from the Wall', because this showed what Ying-ying as like after her marriage to the bad husband. There are many scenes and chapters from the novel that the film did not include like the 'Voice from the Wall', the beach part in 'Half and Half', most parts of 'Scar', 'The Moonlady', and the ones that have already been mentioned in the last paragraph.

The reasons for the film is not exactly like the book and have all the missing chapters is probably mainly because this would make the film to long or the scenes were difficult to do. But in the whole, I personally think the film was better then the book. Not because the change of chapters were made in the film, but because it was easier to understand because of the structure and was more enjoyable because the dramatic scenes made me have tears in my eyes, especially the ending.
