The career that I have chosen to pursue is Human Resources Management. When I started out on the path of “what I want to be when I grow up” I started in a completely different line of work. I wanted to be a Nurse when I graduated high school. I enrolled in college and I worked at a children’s hospital. After a while I started getting burned out by working long hours and on the weekend and I started to wonder if this was the right career that I wanted to continue with.

I was offered a position at a staffing company that tailored to physicians and nurses and I knew right away that I loved being in an office rather than taking care of patients. With this particular position I started out in

recruiting and very quickly I knew that this was the type of work that I enjoyed. I enjoyed being able to contact someone with the possibility of offering them a job and hearing that excitement in their voice that they were chosen for a position.

One of my strengths is being able to speak to someone and instantly find something with them that I can connect with and make them feel more at ease with the conversation that we are having. I think what made me love Nursing was being able to have that connection with my patients and their families that I could make them forget just for a moment their problems and have a conversation that could make them smile. I found this same ease of speaking with people when I was on the phone

when I was recruiting.

Another strength that I have for a career in Human Resources is that I have been in the field for over ten years. I started out with a company in 2000 called CompHealth that staffed physicians and nurses to hospitals and clinics around the states as a recruiting administrative assistant. In 2003 I took a position with another staffing company called SOS Staffing. With this company I was a staffing manager/recruiter. I placed candidates with my clients for various positions.

I decided that I wanted to try corporate recruiting with not having the pressure of meeting “numbers” with a staffing agency and have the freedom to search for candidates for one particular company without trying to solicit clients. I did corporate recruiting for Alorica, PacifiCorp and Tri-Teva between 2006 to 20010. I then relocated to Colorado Springs and started doing contract recruiting work while finishing my education with Western Governors University.

My work history of over ten years on both commercial staffing and corporate recruiting makes me a great candidate because I have experience in both sides of recruiting. A third strength I have is an inner drive to be able to stick to a task and get it done. Whether it is at work or at school, if I am assigned a task I make it a point to work at it until the task is done. If a deadline is presented in front of me I have something inside of me that forces me to keep working on it until it is completed and not just completed but done first the right way.

Which leads

to another strength that I have is a strong work ethic. In my profession in recruiting what I do reflects me and the company that I work for. When I go to recruiting events or career fairs I represent the company that I am there for. Everything about me such as my demeanor, my dress, my attitude, etc. reflects the professionalism of the company as well as any reports or products that are produced and put out by me. I take pride in my work and I want everything that is affiliated with me to be professional and sharp because that is what I try to radiate in my personal life as well.

My last strength that I feel is a strong quality of mine is my determination to finish my education. I have many years in my profession but the one thing that I have lacked is my education. I have always had some sort of excuse as to why I couldn’t finish school but as I see opportunities around me out of my reach because of my education I have decided I am determined to complete my bachelors degree in Human Resource Management. My goal was to start and complete my degree in two years and I am well on my way to completing my goal
