Hi there, this is my first book review. I think I'll be doing a lot more because I like reading, I like writing and I adore public speaking and this combines the three. I look forward to hearing your responses. I just read this wonderful story, Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. The name tells you all, doesn't it? Well no, it actually doesn't! This is a book and a half! I had to stop myself from reading it in the fear i would finish it much too fast. Addicting, fun and as sweet as anything can get. Very intriguing too.
Heaps of people have read it, but I can totally see why. Honestly. Anna and the French Kiss revolves around everything a girl who would choose to read it would be attracted to
...- Paris, 'senior year', an attractive boy with an English accent and bucket-loads of romance. It's also funny, in ways you would not quite expect. The story is set in Paris, France, and Atlanta, Georgia in the USA, but the majority is in Paris. . Paris itself is a character in the story. I mean, i could definitely see myself basking in the sun on the steps of the Pantheon, and in the book i practically was.
There are two main characters - Anna Oliphant and Etienne St. Clair, along with their friends Rashmi, Meredith, Josh who are in Paris with her; Anna's best friend Bridgette, her almost-boyfriend Toph and her brother Sean back in Atlanta. It could be said that Paris itself is a character in the story. I mean, i could definitely se
myself basking in the sun on the steps of the Pantheon. You're winding your way through the streets of Paris, you feel Anna, and not just as a protagonist but as a friend.
And you actually do feel her emotions within you - what she smells, what she tastes, what she sees - her five senses are present and you pretty much get to know everyone she knows on the same exact level. The relationship between Anna and St. Clair is kept steamy and you are kept on your toes, wishing and hoping as much as they are. It develops beautifully, but does put in a few cheesy lines here and there. Personally I've developed a bit of a literary crush on Etienne St Clair, he is quite something.
For a character in a book. The plot may seem like one of cliches but it's anything but. Emotions are raw and the story is round and it comes full circle. But mentally I seemed to cast my own characters faces based on real people and I found myself seeing George Craig as Etienne and Emma Watson as Anna. Which is quite funny really as they did date in the real world. So, seeing as this book stays away from most cliches, I think I'll put one in myself. You will not be able to put it down. Do let me know what you think. Bye now.
