These factors have led to a worrying decline in the industry. To tackle this problem, clear strategies are necessary. The research findings suggest implementing an environmentally sustainable management system as a solution for issues caused by traditional management practices in the industry. Additionally, analyzing sustainable development strategies highlights potential benefits of incorporating these principles into various aspects of the industry's operations.
The application of these principles is evident in different examples that cater to each principle, demonstrating the clear implementation. As a result, implementing sustainable management in this industry will bring about a positive transformation and become the driving

Traditional management practices are defined by managers prioritizing achieving desired results at the expense of their employees' well-being. This approach frequently pushes employees to their limits or coerces them into compliance without considering others. These management practices are commonly observed in government institutions like the military, as well as in sectors such as hospitality and tourism.
This paper will examine the negative impact of using a management style that instills fear among employees and hinders organizational development. It will also discuss the philosophy of environmentally sustainable management in the hospitality and tourism industry, explore the principles of sustainable development in this field, and address criticisms of sustainable development. In the context of hospitality and tourism, sustainable management refers to tourists visiting a place with the intention to positively influence the industry, environment, society, and economy
This includes various aspects like transportation, accommodations, recreation, entertainment, local transportation, and dining. Tourism encompasses both leisure and business travel as essential components (Lockyer, T., 2013).
First, the philosophy of sustainable management in these industries is rooted in the social and economic aspects. The global economy predicts a consistent growth in the tourism and hospitality industries on an international scale. This growth is largely influenced by the industries' locations. These two sectors are among the largest and fastest-growing in the world. To mitigate the impact of tourism, sustainable tourists can adopt various practices. These include respecting local cultures, supporting businesses that preserve cultural heritage, educating themselves about the local culture, economy, and politics, and actively seeking out environmentally conscious businesses to conserve resources (Waligo, V.).
According to M et al, 2013, incorporating stakeholders is crucial for achieving sustainable management in the hospitality and tourism industry. Stakeholders, as identified by Mock, C. et al, 2013, have a significant influence on both positive and negative development of these industries.
The hospitality and tourism industries can involve both organizations and individuals. The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) is an international organization that promotes sustainable practices and encourages the adoption of universal sustainability principles in these industries. Governments also play a role by considering their values and motives when assessing sustainability to ensure sustainable management. They regulate the capacity of areas to accommodate tourists without causing harm to the environment or local culture.
Sustainable hospitality and tourism directly benefit local communities through job creation, economic development, and infrastructure improvement. However, challenges associated with sustainable management include displacement, resettlement, environmental impacts, and erosion of local cultures.
The concept of sustainable development has become a major
global concern, as it involves meeting current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs (L., 2016). Organizations must consider and balance competing needs while recognizing the environmental, social, and economic challenges faced by society as a whole. As a result, sustainability is now a top priority for the hospitality and tourism industries (Elliott, J. 2012). These industries follow principles of sustainable development as guidelines for their organizational activities.
Before implementing a project, organizations typically evaluate whether it adheres to sustainable development principles. These principles differ depending on specific requirements in various contexts. Individuals or organizations are accountable for following these principles and face consequences for not doing so (Ciegis et al., 2015). It is essential to incorporate environmental considerations into the decision-making process throughout the development stage. Economic decisions must accurately consider the environmental impact, human health, and social effects.
This assessment examines the potential negative impacts of the project on the environment, health, and society. If significant repercussions occur in these domains, adjustments must be implemented to ensure beneficial outcomes for both the economy and the environment. Stewardship is a fundamental principle of sustainable development, signifying that any actions undertaken regarding the economy, human health, environment, and social welfare should strive to advantage present and future generations.
This decision holds significant importance as it will have a profound effect on the future. Individuals in charge of the economy, wealth, and society should be careful when making decisions. Recognizing that we all share a common economic, social, and physical environment, those in charge of development must comprehend and respect the diverse perspectives, traditions, aspirations, and values of the population. When managing resources, it is essential to consider the aspirations, needs,
and viewpoints of individuals in different geographical areas without prejudice or discrimination (Pearce et al., 2013). Prevention plays a vital role in ensuring the development and sustainability of any aspect of a nation.
When making decisions, it is important to take into account and minimize negative impacts on the economy, health, society, and the environment. In uncertain situations, it is crucial to carefully evaluate the potential risks that a decision may have on the economy, human health, social well-being, and the environment (Murphy, K. 2012). Conservation and improvement efforts are aimed at safeguarding ecological processes, biodiversity, and the natural systems that sustain life in our surroundings.
In order to prioritize conservation, it is important for individuals to focus on three crucial aspects. These include sustainably harvesting renewable sources, efficiently utilizing both renewable and non-renewable resources, and constantly working towards improving the long-term production capacity and quality of the existing ecosystem (Opp, S. M. 2013). The rehabilitation and reclamation of various environmental elements play a significant role in this endeavor. It is expected that people will address environmental damage and degradation in order to restore the environment back to its previous value.
The importance of rehabilitating and rebuilding our environment has been stressed
by Williams et al. (2013), highlighting the need to prioritize rehabilitation and reclamation in future decision making and actions. Achieving sustainable development in today's world heavily relies on global responsibility. Hence, those responsible for development should always think globally and consider all aspects when devising solutions to problems.
This is because any decision taken by an organization or nation will have a global effect since environmental, health, social and economic factors interrelate with each other globally (Griggs, et al 2013).
The aspects of sustainable management in the tourism and hospitality industries have a variety of applications. In my own opinion, the sustainable management systems and principles can be applied in the tourism and hospitality industry.
On the aspect of rehabilitation and reclamation, this can be used to establish tourism attraction centers such as museums which will be useful in attracting more tourists in the area. The abandoned land can also be used in establishing hotels which can be used to accommodate these tourists.
Some animal species that have become extinct often capture the attention of various tourists. Breeding these species would enhance tourism activities. Afforestation can also be utilized to restore deforested lands, which would attract animals and, in turn, attract tourism. Implementing these elements would greatly improve management practices in these industries and achieve the desired goals of effective management. Moreover, stewardship is essential for every management team in an institution; therefore, decisions should aim to bring benefits and positive trends to the tourism and hospitality industry.
This text primarily focuses on management decisions regarding entrance fees and accommodation charges for tourists at tourist sites. It also emphasizes that any decisions regarding advertisements should aim to increase
the number of tourists visiting these attractions. Additionally, it states that any development or projects in the industry should be able to adapt to changes over the next thirty years and cater to future generations. The author suggests that a shared understanding and responsibility among stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industries is crucial for success. This understanding should start with the industries themselves, extending to their subordinates at various tourist sites and hotels. This approach will streamline management processes and financial allocations, preventing misappropriation of industry funds due to clear organization.
Clear communication and definition of responsibilities are essential in reducing confusion and role ambiguity in the industry. Additionally, the skill of Prevention should be applied to avoid problems that could negatively impact the tourism and hospitality sectors. It is crucial to critically analyze organizational decisions to ensure smooth operations. If a decision's consequences pose a clear threat to the economy, health, society, or the environment, it must be abandoned. In particular, decisions concerning the integration of an information system in the industry should undergo thorough analysis as even a minor vulnerability can lead to hacking of the entire system.
Practitioners often criticize the definition of sustainable development for its human-centered focus and lack of emphasis on preserving nature and its resources (Hopwood, B.). Furthermore, this broad definition has resulted in ambiguity in interpretation as observed in multiple books and articles.
According to et al (2005), the tourism and hospitality industry requires significant attention to ensure consistent growth. To achieve this, the management sector should adopt current management styles that demonstrate positive trends. The industry's primary focus should be on sustainable development principles, reflecting both local and
global expectations.
By harnessing the potential of tourist attractions and prioritizing hospitality, it becomes evident that the tourism and hospitality industry will quickly become the foundation of the economy.
